To get to be a Green Beret, someone has had to go to AIT, jump school, and usually RIP and Ranger school, where they learn leadership skills and advanced small unit tactics, then they go through SFAS and their year+ MOS training and Robin Sage, so they have years of training in basic infantry tactics, Op plans, etc. Some of them have combat deployments under their belt by the time they become a Green Beret. A SEAL gets taken off the street, goes through BUDS, then goes through SEAL training. They have zero background in basic infantry and small unit tactics - basic poo poo that even Specialist Shithead would know, not even SOF knowledge. Then the SEAL gets through a 26 week Q course, then 6 months of training. But they have no infantry experience, no deployments under their belt, no knowledge of basic poo poo every Joe knows. This lack of experience is so evident in the way SEALs operate overseas.

Rangers are Tier 1 and SEALs (that are not in DEVGRU) are Tier 2/3 going by the actual system. It's based on some sort of state-of-readiness metric and how many hours/days it at minimum takes to get the unit from zero to on site a mission, has nothing (directly) to do with "elite-ness." Also DEVGRU vs regular SEALs is a whole different level. I think DEVGRU cuts the vast majority of applicants from the regular teams. I worked with every tier of every level of JSOC. It’s all been written about elsewhere, but I know my poo poo when it comes to those idiots in SEAL Team 6. Or the regiment. It was a 3 star capture and kill command. All else was secondary or tertiary. Capture and Kill were the marching orders. Also, not to correct you but only the regimental recon company is Tier 1 for the Rangers. The tiers are just stupid readiness and money things like you said. But the RRC Rangers will quickly correct you about their tier if you are ever privileged enough to work with them. For me the biggest LOL is how well the USAF has obscured its JSOC involvement. It’s loving huge. I can never remember what’s classified and what’s not so I go 100% classified even though I know that’s not what it is. My point being, lotta Air Power gets ate up by JSOC.
