if the legislation is to get out in front of more techno-charlatanism like people using FMRI in place of polygraphs, with the same kind of accuracy, but an all new veneer of respectability, then it's fine.

they desperately wanted to tell a story. the actual story is a single paragraph halfway through the article, but presumably they're paid by the word

yesterday i learned that the cyberpunk genre and its progenitors are racist because the aesthetic leans heavily on orientalism due to 80s western fears of eastern dominance

i learned this because someone in the cyberpunk 2077 thread in games asked a CDPR dev who posts there why they made the game

i got the game on sale and started posting there just to bullshit about it as i played thorough but about 2/3rds of that thread are weirdly aggressive about everything, the other third are just weird

it seems like a lot of people built the game up in their heads to be a quasi-religious experience and of course nothing was going to deliver on that kind of hype.

wasn't that widely debunked the last time it came up on twitter with pointing to how much of the genre originates from japanese artists? or do i have it backwards somehow?

anyways if that one person responded it'd probably be interesting but absolutely none of the other posts in that thread would be

the dev has not responded, presumably because they have sense enough not to make a public statement on that subject on behalf of their entire company on the something awful dot com forums

if you did it with current technology it would be annoying but I feel like if we actually invented some kind of light-emitting cloth it wouldn't be. maybe keeping it visible and looking good would be annoying but it wouldn't necessarily be uncomfortable

person of interest is kind of unique in that it wants to tell a high-concept sci fi story but is forced to do so through the medium of generic network procedural. it does eventually get there but very slowly and never fully escapes that constraint

the lucifer tv show went the same way. it wanted to tell a vertigo comics angels-and-devils-and-gods-and-monsters stories but it had to start as a detective procedural and slowly build up to those stories

whatever works, i guess

i did get to the final arc but i just stopped caring, the format is absolute trash and even the best story would be worthless told that way. might as well read the wikipedia summary, which tbf i also didnt
