Can anyone explain this dev-mode fiasco that's going on with Xbox that may or may not have happened? I saw the MVG video on it, but it now turns out that "Parnter Center" accounts were accidentally disabled? What's Partner Center though?

Partner center is Microsoft's web backend for various Xbox Live functionality, it's where you go to do things like upload new builds to Xbox Live, change prices of DLC, activate developer kits, create test accounts, that sort of thing.

I find it entirely plausible that they accidentally deactivated a bunch of accounts, it is very much in keeping with my experience of working with them. Stuff on MPC is constantly breaking.

Also I thought dev mode was required to run homebrew/emulators on Series X/S hardware but apparently you can do that in retail mode with secret URLs or something?

... While the dev-mode loophole appears to be pretty popular, I think it's clear that Microsoft can remove access at a moment's notice and so it's not really a viable option if you're picking up a system primarily for homebrew.

Pretty sure the worst that happens with retail mode stuff is that it gets delisted from the shop, local copies of homebrew apps that have been installed and ran at least once don't (can't?) get revoked.

Yeah thank you, I do remember hearing about that but I never did it because I have something like 300 Gamecube games. I do hope there's a way Nintendont or something enables it some day.

I doubt there will be ever be another way. It’s annoying but worth setting up for games you’d like want to play on the pad most.

How do you format the saves on 3DS carts? I would think Checkpoint (the save manager) would have this feature but nope. Thankfully, I ended up not needing it today because I figured out enough German to switch the language in this Lego City preowned cart I just got, but I'll take advice for the future on deleting saves.

The thing to install .cia files and dump cart games? I just launched it and it's got a million options (so I may be missing something) but the ones related to save files seem to be centered only on those stored in the SD card.

Guess I'll try that other save editor called JKSM (or however that's typed). It's such a weird omission for Checkpoint not having an option called "Erase".

Edit: nvm, found the procedure through FBI. Titles > Game Name (first option is the loaded cart) > Browse Save Data > current directory > Delete all contents

Welcome to the world of enthusiast products for old games consoles.

LODGE NORTH

I think a lot of the pricing has to do with the amount of competitions etc. I’m sure there’s a word for what I mean but it’s early here and my brain hasn’t had time to think of it.

Like with a DS flashcart, for a minute there, there were rampant clones of the R4 to the point where a clone became the recommended device for people on the DSi, and then a clone of that became recommended for people on a 3DS wanting to play DS games. But then there was a surprising amount of competitors who sold more expensive cards like CycloDS, DSTT, Acekard, and all with some really cool additional features like rewinding, USB accessible storage, or GBA emulation.

On these older consoles, it’s really just Krikkz for the most part. But then he also makes the carts with very clearly the best quality. Even for that cart above, it’s the only work that works 100% on the Pocket, but it lacks features compared to the Omega DE.

So, surprisingly, DS flash carts are electrically simpler than GBA ones. DS cartridges do relatively-slow block copy I/O into DS RAM while GBA cartridges tie directly into the processor bus and have to support random access, word-addressable I/O. Thus, the DS cartridge protocol can be implemented by a microcontroller while GBA cartridges need to use PSRAM chips in conjunction with a microcontroller. There's also the issue that GBA cartridges support different save technologies (SRAM, EEPROM, FeRAM), and even things like RTC.

More generally, the approach between the two platforms is a bit different. DS flash carts don't mimic ROM cartridges all that well and rely heavily on per-game anti-piracy hacks, while modern GBA flash carts attempt to mimic ROM cartridges closely and rely less on patches. DS anti-piracy patches were more-or-less crowdsourced years ago when DS piracy was at its height and so that work is just, done, and the R4 clone manufacturers can just keep pumping out the chips they've always pumped out. Meanwhile both the EverDrive and EZ-Flash Omega are novel designs.

It's been possible for years. You just need a forwarder channel for Nintendont (a wiiu one obviously) that supports the gamepad. I have one installed on mine right now.

You lose USB support for some godforsaken reason if you do that, though. Which completely ruins the point because my 300 GC games would naturally be on a hard drive and not an SD card.

I haven't, but looking at the example screenshots there, I'm not convinced that any of the scaling methods look appreciably better than the scaling method Nintendo went with. The scaling on the text looks so uneven and messy on the alternative scaling modes that I'm just not a fan.

Got a weird problem on my Switch - updated Atmosphere and firmware to the latest, but after that if I have the sys-ftp-light module running on startup I get a black screen after the switch logo that means I need to turn it off to re-inject. Can't find where to turn on atmosphere logs to see what the error is, and it works totally fine if I just start it up after launch. Anyone seen anything similar?

It’s not really a big effort, you just choose which scale and it applies it. I’m trying “linear sharpen 1” and I think it’s an improvement. A subtle one.

Seriously how do I upgrade my Wii U to the new hack safely?

I can't find a good update guide because I don't know which method I used. I use a DS game to auto boot into the CFW which I think means I am using Haxchi but I also see Mocha in the list of my homebrew apps so I have no idea how to upgrade to the new hack.

Playing Psychonauts 2 on the Switch through GamePass via Moonlight-Switch. It's wild.

The Switch has to do the decoding on its CPU 'cause no-one's figured out how to access NVDEC yet. This means that you're not gonna stream games at 1080p @ 60 FPS unless you've overclocked the Switch CPU to a dangerous degree (don't do this).

But 720p @ 60 works pretty well if you limit the bitrate in Moonlight-Switch to about 10 mbps. I haven't hooked the Switch up to a wired connection yet; no idea if that makes a difference if you're already on a decent 5 GHz network (which I am).

Moonlight-Switch is a nice piece of homebrew with plenty of control options — you can steer the mouse via the touchscreen or the joystick, switch the button layout to the Xbox standard, etc.

It's never not gonna be amazing to me that I can use my gaming laptop on my Switch.

Ok so if you bought a DS game to hack the wii u you are using haxchi. But hold on, cause there is an add on to that that let's you enable haxchi from boot up called cold boot haxchi.

To check for that do 2 things:
1. There should be a 'game' installed with a caution symbol icon that's called something like 'DO NOT DELETE THIS'. If you have that you have cold boot haxchi.

2.if you can power up you Wii U from power off, and instantly start homebrew without a crash, cold boot haxchi is installed.

Mocha may also be on your system cause some homebrew prefers it, but cold boot haxchi it the important one to remove properly and safely.

So the tl;dr is:
Follow steps for uninstalling cold boot
Delete haxchi as a regular game
Probably don't need to do anything w/ mocha (but look at the uninstall guide to see if it's relevant)

Then start the process of installing Tiramisu

Chumbawumba4ever97

Thanks again. Got it working well, though I am not sure what was really gained over Haxchi since I already had the DS title on my system, but it's nice to be on the newest thing.

I guess one of the biggest additions to Tiramisu is that it supports plugins? Which is what Bloopair is?

Are there any other plugins? Is there a good site or thread somewhere where we can follow Tiramisu happenings and new plugins that get released for it?

(watch now that I just spent $160 on a 1tb SD card so I can control the Gamecube library with the WiiU gamepad there will be a plug-in released a week from now that can do it over the USB drive).

Also does anyone know what the BBA emulation in Nintendont does? Does that mean you can play Phantasy Star Online GC with people on a Wiiu?

I had no idea. That's reassuring. I rarely use the Switch more than a couple of hours at a time so increased battery drain isn't a concern. It'd be neat to match the docked-mode frequencies if nothing else. What do you use for overclocking?
