seriouspost, ask you physician about metclopramide. it's an anti-nausa medication that I take along with voltaren against migraines. it makes the voltaren more effective and also stops me from barfing from the migraine. it's a cheap generic too.

It's kind of a pharmacological sledgehammer for nsaid stomach upsettedness. You might want to try an acid reducer first (tagamet), or a naproxen regime (2x daily with food). Hurry up and get a doctor old goon, they know best.

Have you been formally diagnosed with osteoarthritis in your hands, or are you just assuming because they hurt?

Achmed Jones

i said they hurt and the doctor ran some tests and said "it's probably arthritis". no like x-rays or anything but he checked for elevated white blood cells and some other stuff i think. i don't remember really, it was a couple years ago

thanks for the recs - i'll try naproxen. hopefully i can tolerate it

Take it as directed on the label - if you just take it whenever it doesn't help that much. If your under like.. 50 I'd recommend trying to nail down why they hurt - especially if they ache bad enough to make it hard to concentrate, fall asleep, or do your work. Sometimes pain is a normal part of aging, and sometimes it isn't.

I’ve been getting some nerve pain in my hands and naproxen is great for it, worked better than cortisone for me. no side effects but I’m pretty lucky with most medication that way. it’s sold as period pain medication in AU, not sure why it’s not the default anti inflammatory because is seems better than anything else. works for my gout too.

i was first diagnosed with osteoarthritis around age 24 iirc

i used to take ibuprofen and naproxen but i had to switch to tylenol arthritis (doctor supervised) b/c nsaids give me instant diarrhea. doc tried me on other nsaids too including voltaren gels and oral diclofenac (ie voltaren but a pill) with enteric coating but i couldn't tolerate them any better than naproxen, which is too bad because naproxen was really good at stopping the pain.

i 100% recommend nsaids if you can tolerate them though, they're so much better for you than tylenol.

Wait till you need physical therapy. There are teeny tiny little muscles all over the place that feel like you got hit with a ball peen hammer for about a week the first time you ever deliberately exercise them.

this is true of any nsaid but the number one rule for nsaids is fluids if you’re drinking and you’re peeing it’s ok, don’t get dehydrated! drink fluid. maybe try water but if it’s wet it’s get

also osteoarthritis? I know I’ve said it lots before but had surprising success with customers on hemp seed oil. many people have great things to say. maybe you will too

doctors are assholes and will guaranteed make you feel bad about how you've 'not taken care of yourself', are going to refer you to a specialist who is booked for the next 11 weeks but maybe they can see you in May, oh and you're going to get a bill for that for $17,320. how is this difficult to understand

It takes a lot of willpower to follow a strict diet, maintain a set weight, comply with glucose monitoring. On top of whatever else you've got to deal with in life a lot of people just can't maintain that level of discipline over thrity+ years.

Willpower is a limited resource.

i’m aware of this for sure. but there’s definitely a difference between someone who mostly does a good job and someone who completely ignores all medical advice

mind you i expect a nontrivial portion of the latter group probably would also benefit from therapy and since a huge part of the world seems to view that sort of thing as a personal failing, well.

eh it’s also that diabetes is a complex disease and it’s difficult to maintain great control but not so hard
to have OK control. he’s never been and never will be the kind of person to calculate his insulin based on carb content so he’ll forever have to take slightly less insulin because too much isn’t doable, and so there’s decades of that.

and also people missing that blood glucose is a marker for diabetes and not the disease itself and even if your blood glucose stays good other poo poo goes on, and for example ice cream barely elevates blood sugars because of its huge fat content but obv it’s not good for you, but simplistic understandings of diabetes = high sugars leads people to treat the markers not the disease and it’s really unreasonable to expect laymen to really get how to properly treat complex metabolic syndromes

luckily these days we have pharmacological treatments that help tons and are “easy” as in you could change nothing about your lifestyle and still be far better off simply by taking drug

also other people just don’t give a gently caress. other people will offer a diabetic a sugar sandwich and be like “well they can say no if they want”, disregarding diabetes especially type 2 is probably associated with a hosed up relationship to food (like I have) and that i’m like a drug addict when it comes to my self control, never mind when other people try to get you to eat more even when you say no. other people truly value their own happiness at feeding someone than the persons health. makes me furious and makes me wish I was a person who stood up for myself because i’ll chow down on a cake someone made for me because I’m too nervous to say “sorry i’m a diabetic and I really shouldn’t” fml

i’m on a new one that makes my kidneys spill over excess blood glucose into the urine so I pee out calories. was 4kg lighter than I expected last time I weighed myself. and it makes me piss more hence drink more hence more full from water all the time
