i have gigabit and get roughly half that. it isnt symmetric. it's fast enough that i never have to worry about speed or throttling or anything. just download whatever i want, from wherever i want, while doing work meetings, while ms jones watches netflix or w/e we dont have any 4k screens in the house. maybe one day

honestly if it's a brand new video game i also don't mind waiting 4 hours for it to download. i'm not a little kid on christmas morning. as you said, you have better things to do than wait around. go and do those things. now if i had to wait 4 hours before i could start a movie, like in the bad old days, yeah gently caress that. but even at 100mbps i don't

Right. the only reason somebody has to be super hornt to get a game fast is if a patch drops and they want to use some item dupe exploit or w/e to get ahead before everybody else logs on. 100-200 mbps is good enough. even doubling your speeds from there means big games take an hour vs 1/2 hour, and that’s decreasing returns territory. I have 1 gig because the price is good but had zero issues at 1/5 of that. better speeds are nice but once you hit 100 it’s Fine

Just checked and the Apple TV’s getting 800mbs down. More than plenty. Only 60 bucks a month, pretty good by American standards Watched The Green Knight in 4K a few weeks ago and it all just worked and was gorgeous.

cls: managed to get 8.6 liters of aquavit at 40% abv, not too shabby! Was shooting for at least 8L. Got a new 10L barrel that’s full of water to seal things up and I should be able to start aging the stuff tomorrow. Haven’t tasted any yet but aroma wise the aniseed and Angelica is really coming through even though I used way more caraway & dill & cardamom, Doesn’t seem that aquavit-y but it’s pretty dang pleasant. We’ll see if the caraway & dill come through more when it mellows out a bit
