What's the goon-pulse on Ultrawings 2? I'm super bummed it's not crossbuy, so I can't airlink it or try it on Index :(

I've been watching reviews but haven't found anything showing how the controls 'feel' considering its just two wireless controllers and no HOTAS.

Edit - Just finished another review and I guess it is coming to PCVR and will have multiplayer and HOTAS support! Definitely waiting for that.

They've got some good haptic/audio feedback on the sticks for the motion controls - there are different tones of click when you move through positions with the stick, and a distinct click when you reach the limit of the sticks movement in a direction. I think it works well, and the whole game is built around that looseness of control.

I like the little plane bootup sequence cockpit things and the handheld pistol shooting too much to give up motion control for it. give me more "big complicated cockpits with lots of buttons and analog sticks" games, please. where is the steel battalion vr replica.

As for the game itself, it's very much more ultrawings. Though it feels like you get faster planes much quicker than in the first game. the challenges feel very familiar - lots of flying through rings and popping balloons.

though the early planes have legit cannons on them this time so they've got you doing more dogfighting and target shooting than i remember playing in the first game - lots of ammo management in those segments, one of the earliest levels tasks you with destroying 3 bombers. they're surrounded by escorts and you definitely don't have enough ammo to take everyone out, have to focus your fire and dance around the fire from the escorts

I never played the first one, but the toggling of switches for the start-up sequence legit sounds like the best part. Well that and being able to whip out a hand gun while you’re flying :blastu:

Somebody in Zenith told me to spec both my mage and blademaster into support and hoo boy that poo poo is broken in the most fun way. You basically trade a bit of damage for a truckload of sustain (vs the dps specs) to the point where you can solo most early group quests and events.

Feels like I’m back leveling soul link warlock in vanilla WoW. Would 100% recommend going support for anyone primarily playing solo.

Also pin this map (https://ez.community/map) above your head, turn down the music a bit so you can hear the chimes better, and make sure you collect all the Amara’s Tears in each zone before moving on - it’s a huge pain to backtrack to the earlier zones once you realize how important it is to expand the stamina bar asap.

drat, this is the way to upgrade stamina. Just grabbed like 28 tears in 1.5 hours to get to level 4 stamina. Highly recommended.

Any recommendations for a decent battery pack for the Quest 2. I'd probably go the lazy route and just put it in my pocket and use a cable.

The strap is nice, the magnet in the strap is strong enough to hold the battery alone, but I put on the metal plate for extra security. You also get the added benefit of a more balanced headset with the added weight on the back.

When I first played Beat Saber, I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. It was like an IGN 8 out of 10 for me.

But the game has a remarkable learning curve. Almost like learning a legitimate hobby or sport. It took me a year to get good.

Once you can tackle single saber expert plus songs, it's pretty drat gratifying.

Complex but not so much that you easily forget how to cast in battle. Loads of cool combos and weapon interactions.

Also, having the game actually get dark is so great because now I have a reason to cast Mage Light, carry a torch or use my special cat eyes.

Doing yet another mage run where I summon as much random bullshit to fight for me as possible. Forgot I resurrected a giant spider so when I got to an Inn, it spawned right next to me and scared the poo poo out of me.

Not the person you asked, but I've been playing with the FUS modpack from Wabbajack set to Cangar's Preset but with crouch to stealth turned off and its really an incredible time. Just remember there's extra instructions in the install process for graphics settings that you might be missing.

Absolutely worth buying Skyrim VR, absolutely worth paying for a month of Nexus Premium to make the install smooth.

Yeah, I'm using FUS and it is aces.

Visually it's great for lighting but most things are very low rez if I stop to examine it. Not sure what I messed up in the install process. I thought I followed it exactly.

Those particular issues seem to be completely baked into the game at a fundamental level so I doubt they will change through patching.

They did have a couple patches which fixed some performance and stability problems but I don’t think we are going to see any of that kind of improvement.

After one hour of play I was super disappointed with the limitations but I went back and I think I’ve got 30 or 40 hours in the game now and it’s one of my favorite all time VR experiences (I haven’t played these games outside of VR) and definitely don’t regret buying them.

Not quite in the way you think. It should be a relatively simple measure of changing what the root of the player avatar orients to and its positioning. It's an IK fix, not a fundamental flaw in the engine.

Off the top of my head you could fix the rotation thing just by making the orientation of the playspace always rotate to towards the direction the player's facing. Granted I'm thinking in Unity, but there should surely be an equivalent of Vector3.RotateTowards() in the Glacier Engine.

The player position thing you could (very crudely) fix by just having the hip position locked to the X/Y of the head minus the distance from head to hip for Z. Maybe put in an angular offset when crouching?

The bigger question is what the gently caress makes the right hand go mental and physics itself frantically sometimes when you pick up an object or choke someone.

Ultrawings isn’t a sim, really. Yes you have to turn the fuel on and stuff with huge chunky knobs, but then you fire a pistol out of the cockpit at giant balloons as well

Yeah I don't have hard figures, but I'm pretty sure I unlocked the second and third planes (spitfire style prop plane, jet with no throttle only "jet on" and "jet off oh gently caress glide") and the second island in.. easily the first half an hour? maybe a bit longer to get the Comet (jet), but it's not hanging around with unlocks.

On the other hand, 90% of what you do is "fly through these rings", or variations on the theme, so

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/developer-post/4707912772627883/

Are there significant differences between the Quest and Steam versions? I generally try to buy VR stuff on Steam if there is a choice, but this seems like a good pick-up-and-go portable game.

After checking some, there don't appear to be any PC mods of the game, and adding custom songs is easy enough on both platforms. It isn't cross-buy either.
