Dammit I need to learn to ollie finally. I was just out walking the dogs and there’s a kid under a street lamp on the one patch of bare dry pavement in the neighborhood kickin rear end working on his ollie. Why the gently caress am I wasting my winter nights watching tv? I need to make that my goal for the year.

Finally strapped on my pads and protective gear and tooled around in my cul de sac for a few minutes on my comet Cruiser. The trucks are super flexy so at low speed or a stop it feels unstable, but once rolling it turns very easy for me, a beginner. That said I did nearly fall a few times trying to push, and dragging a foot to brake feels very awkward with how soft the trucks are so I have a lot to learn. Maybe this will help me with ankle strength and flexibility or balance?

I am a big proponent of loose trucks, but if you need a little more resistance you can get bushings of a higher durometer.

I posted some months ago with the board I built after 20 years out of the sport. My initial ideas about working really hard to get back into vert and street skating might have been a little bit too ambitious for my age, and willingness to get hurt. Today I swapped out my 54 mm 100A wheels for some wide 60mm 78A (slimeballs) and slapped on a riser. Love it! Cruising around town, not getting much more technical than an Ollie is my way forward, and I'm once again super stoked. Trying to ride the streets around here on small hard wheels was miserable, felt like I was skating through molasses how quickly I was slowing down. With these I give a single push and cruise half the block. Night and day difference, would recommend.

Tighten up the trucks. while low speed turns are fine for learning, loose trucks generally mean you will be more unstable at speed in a straight line. tightening the trucks will mean your turning radius is larger but you'll be more stable.

Andy just makes poo poo look so drat fun. edit: drat, I just realized I never posted in here about the Hookups deck my buddy gave me last year as a b-day/housewarming gift! I'd been joking about getting one to hang up in my new apartment because my parents couldn't stop me like they had when I was 16. Well, my birthday happened to be a couple weeks later and homie surprises me with this (spoilered for the people at work. also not my image, but same deck) XIII fucked around with this message at 01:23 on Mar 3, 2022 |

been seeing a lot of good ishod clips pop up on ig this year. still killin after like an entire decade since sotyLaserface posted:Tighten up the trucks. if anyone ever tightens their trucks i highly caution them to do it as little as possible. unless the hangar is gonna literally fall off you'll be fine. somewhere between medium and wobbly loose is perfect for most people. one of the biggest mistake inexperienced skaters tend to make is over-tightening their trucks which will severely limit their ability to roll away from things that they are otherwise doing correctly (180s, anything with a shuvit, etc) because they're forced to go with the board rather than the board go with them. later on it becomes far more difficult for a person that got comfortable skating tighter trucks to inevitably adapt to loosening theirs. this is similar to how people learn to do tricks stationary only to find out they have to practically relearn everything despite having what they felt like was a solid grasp of the basics gay for gacha posted:this whole thing rules. lmao the dank rear end sandboarding song coming in at @41:40

Anyone have recommendations, videos or tips on teaching a five year old how to skate? I skated some but not much growing up and probably never really learned correctly. And that was a long time ago. We are giving him a board for his birthday though so anything to help out would be nice. I asked the local shop where I got the board about potential lessons etc but most won’t start for a couple months so anything to help fill the gap would be nice.
