Edit: I have just been informed the blastwave books have sold out! Big thank you to everyone who has bought a blastwave book thing! That's nearly 3000 copies sold overall.

(also I should note that the person who handles the sales is gonna be out of contact for about a week. So if there's any questions about your orders still... you'll have to wait a while.)

Oh and yes. Cliffhanger-y comics! I know everyone loves waiting for months for new pages, so this is to make it some more exciting!

Yarrggrhhhh... I had something very specific to write here but I forgot.

I was aiming to get this up last weekend, but ended up drawing this comic reaaallly slowly as I am bit distracted with getting ready to move. More on that on my blog.

Oh and if you haven't subscribed to the rss this year, do it. The one that was there before this year doesn't work anymore.

Everyone knows that. They even use the same language. Let me give you a citation which I totally didn't search for post facto.

"Owls and other night-crying birds are believed to be the embodied ghosts or disguised witches, and their cry is dreaded as a sound of evil omen,” observed anthropologist James Mooney, who lived with the Cherokees on the Qualla Boundary (present-day Cherokee, NC) during the late 1880s.

Interesting! That didn't occur to me; Australian owls are not exactly spooky. Well, google "tawny frogmouth."
There's one in my favourite ironbark forest, somewhere beyond the grasstree ring and the carnivorous plant meadow. It keeps going "hoom, hoom, hoom" at the very edge of hearing, then stops once I've wandered off the path looking for it. Probably trying to lure me to my doom or something

In New Zealand, the Ruru (or Morepork, both onomatopoeic names based on its two-note call) had similar connotations, but was also seen as a spirit guardian. Also the eyes on traditional carvings (as well as the wide-eyed expression used in haka) are said to be based on the owl.

EDIT: til: Moreporks also used to live in Tasmania

new day new owls

owls: they like trees. thanks, excellent, great guidebook. no wonder the protagonist whose name i have forgotten wants to draw all the owls if this is the level of scholarship currently available.

tellervo is apparently a finnish forest spirit, so you would imagine she'd be up on her owls. this is not to be mistaken for pullervo, a finnish ringed seal whose name i understand to roughly translate as "Chubs" and who hangs out on a rock near a webcam. he's currently on the rock!

e: he's not on the rock it's currently playing a best-of compilation

I like the owl comic because it's just pleasant nothingness and it's not trying to be anything else. Here are some owls, here are some low stakes, here's a weird ray thing. It's nice.
