So how's the Erlking? Does it work out to be stronger than an Asgard (for whatever reason you'd need that lol)?

I have Xenon piling through both HAT gates and Argon Prime is going to be hosed soon. Though this is mostly because TER and TRI messed up ARG in the first few hours of my custom game.

I had a Xenon I come through Second Contact II Flashpoint and go up into Argon Prime where it destroyed the Wharf and most of the Stations. Gametime was one day at this point so no chance to stop this by myself. The I then died like most Xenon in Hatikvah's Choice in front of a tiny Spacefuel factory. 60 Large plasma turrets solve a lot of problems I guess.

I'm trying to get a scrapping station up at the Xenon gate, my "welcome mat of death" has been very effective. Once I scrape together some more credits I'll make it a proper cage.

Only problem is when I teleport in sector to Hoover up ~100 drops and A) fill my notification queue for ~10 minutes and B) the station accidentally clips one of the Argon defense fleets and have to take a 2-3 point rep hit when the station deletes them for going aggro

I will never forget that "space fuel" is whiskey. I will be on my deathbed and remember it.

One of the ways I tried to desperately scrape up cash in X3 was camping a Space Fuel distillery in a system where it was illegal and I had a police license and hassling anybody who undocked after picking up some THIS FACILITY IS A FACILITY THAT PRODUCES *pause* ARGON WHISKEY, BETTER KNOWN TO ALL PILOTS AS: *pause* SPACE FUEL and then picking it up myself with a freighter and sending it off somewhere to sell it when I had enough.

(I was hoping people would bail out of their ships but that never really worked)

so I got to the point of "seeing the Erlking" and lol

The first thing I did when I dropped into the system was start running couriers for fast trade rep so I was at VIG +0 when they warned me off and then aggroed...with -19, which put them at "unfriendly but not hostile", and then boarding the ship didn't aggro the station or the ship itself so that was just...that.

My God, it's full of Horatios!

I’ve just started a new playthrough as Young Gun, got a couple mill through crystal mining and used it to buy a M ore miner that’s puttering around grand exchange mining silicon. Is there any nvidium around there? I didn’t see any.

What’s the best thing to do with the next few hours of gameplay? I’m dabbling with the player HQ and Hatikvah missions, anything else?

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

I think there is nividium somewhere in the northern grand exchange sector? It should tell you on the map hex whether or not the sector contains a resource.

Generally to start out I just buy some miners and tell them to automine, a nividium miner is a good start because while it will cap out quite quickly, it fetches a lot of money per-miner up until that point. Turning the HQ into a factory is also a good bet.

There’s a fun bug where your salvaging ships will struggle to drop off wrecks if you ARENT in system. Usually it’s the other way around. It doesn’t help that they are painfully slow.

boso ta shut the gently caress up challenge

do yourself a favor and when the race thing comes up, do it all the way through to at least the step after the race because for that period of time the game seems to assume everything you're doing is related to the race and can apparently get stuck in a loop of having boso ta call you repeatedly and infinitely to inform you that whatever it was you did isn't required or appropriate for the race

So, I'm just going through the Terran plots - is there a recommended order?

On the Yaki one, I'm up to choosing where I take a Yaki fighter, out of TER and "my employer" Boso Ta. (He should really stop referring to himself as such, IMO. I own the station he's on, plus some others, while all he owns is a fish tank) Not sure which to give it to - Boso seems to let me keep it, while I assume TER will give me something roughly equivalent.

As for the "covert mission" one, I've gotta get an EMP bomb and an SDS (or whatever it is). Should I finish this one before progressing down the Yaki quest? Since that seems like the main mission. Could be mistaken though

Good game!
Id say keep it, i prefer having early access to Moreya to a Katana you can easily buy.

Edit: You can also keep the Moreya to safely explore all Xenon sectors, im pretty sure it doesnt work with the Katana you get.

Agreed on keeping the Moreya being preferable, it stays useful as a fighter and the Katana is basically immediately outclassed by the Kuraokami anyways

e: ToA quest spoilers, the temptation to drop the PHQ into Leap of Faith as a way of bootstrapping station creation is not-insignificant, it's a shame that the usage of protectyon is literally "one ton, per station, per ??? period of time" that makes it almost useless to actually haul out of the sector en masse

I'm of the opinion a free Katana is more useful to me over an S class fighter, I mean I'll eventually trade up to a Dragon or Nemesis because I think they look even sweeter ( and more fun to fly ), but a Katana is a brokenly good Corvette ( especially after you invest in a few mods ), and by the time the Katana comes up I'm looking to upgrade from my starter Kukri and I don't like the aesthetics of the Moreya. Also, when I drop the Katana as my personal battlewagon I'll still have a use for it intercepting Khaak in asteroid belts until I've upgraded to L miners.

Major Isoor
Mar 23, 2011
Hmm, OK then. So I guess really, the main benefit of giving the fighter to TER is I get some extra cash, in the form of a Katana. I mean hell, does it at least have a cool paint job? :D
I think I'll I'll probably hang onto the fighter, even if it's kinda weird looking. Since I already have a (not quite as good) Katana and money's easy enough to come by, compared to exotic ships. Are any of the other Yaki M ships good as a personal ship? If not, I'm considering just getting a split Dragon, or whatever it's called. In my original X4 save, I found that that thing armed with two split space shotguns is fantastic!

EDIT: Actually, speaking of L miners, how good are they compared to Ms? In my original game I never bothered going to L class miners, although it possibly would've been better to. Do they need a bunch of escorts and a bucket of drones to be effective, or are they pretty good on their own? (Also, what are the best sectors to send them to? Since it seems like mining has been re-jigged since I last played, so Argon Prime isn't very good anymore)

Major Isoor fucked around with this message at 07:08 on Mar 21, 2022

L miners are, I think, better if they are travelling long distances off the highway. Also they have the advantage of being generally capable of fighting off khaak attacks with their defence turrets.

They have the same issues as all L ships, sluggish to respond, but if you just need them to fly a long way in a mostly straight line they're OK.

FrickenMoron

Good game!
Obligatory Video post.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz-cmZWjiVo

M are the most efficient overall while L has the benefit of defense. L miners can actually be very, very efficient if you give them high rank captains. Otherwise they will never outperform Ms but they are so much more durable that you eventually will start only using Ls.

Quick heads up about the ToA missions. Finish the questline in Avarice last. You're supposed to make a decision and depending on what you choose, one of the factions will drop to -25. There are 2 missions to help with that but none of them get you back to -9 or higher.

The problem is that the ToA factions don't have criminal traffic to raise your standing, don't award the right kind of missions or give rep when you kill a Xenon next to a station. The only way to raise your standing is trading and that requires at least -9.

30 is max you can get.

in a recent start i accepted an 11 million payout mission,( to board some ship) which bumped me to over 10 standings with hatikva from 0.

The Kuraokami ( Yaki M ) is a much faster Nemesis Vanguard with slightly poorer agility but double the cargo capacity and Yaki greebles all over it. A Dragon still beats it for speed and the 6th weapon hardpoint, but the Nemesis and Kuraokami has the better endurance for a prolonged fight with the additional shield hardpoint ( consider not only that extra shield itself but the effect of a second shield mod ). The Dragon excels at high speed, high burst damage jousting but definitely cops it hard when you're trying to soften a cap ship for boarding, so your mileage depends on your preferred combat role.

sort of

I was at +17 before the drop, and it kicked me up to +17 again after I blew up a casino and paid off 15mil. The latter was where all was "forgiven" and I got the old rep back, but a bunch of fighters were still leftover aggroed so arguably it might have been better to kill all of them then do the second part, since obviously with that many still-hostile things "just shut down all turrets and ignore them" was....iffy
