Like the time he mixed S4 and S5 parts in the Red 92 RHD engine, then blamed the customer when the motor exploded after 30 min later.
Or the time he "converted" a 88 GXL to fuel injection, by JBwelding the injector holes kinda shut, folding+zip tying bare wires into pins, and using JB weld to "rebuild" the carb.
Also the same fantastic gentleman who took money from the local rotary club to build a motor for weekend racing, which lasted 30 minutes....
And then did the exact same thing to three other local rotary race teams.

In europe, the maintenance is almost feasible on these. I wouldn't want to try living with one overseas, unless it was already mechanically refreshed by somebody else or if I could do all the maintenance myself.

My parents got rid of their Alfa when their weird old Italian Mechanic retired. And of course 'upgraded' to Mercedes Benz for cheaper servicing, in which we found a equally weird old mechanic for that.

I have no illusions that mine is worth that much, and I don’t ever plan to sell it.

I just hit 70k miles on mine today which is still a decently low number. I’ve only driven it around 550 miles since it was last inspected in May of ‘21, due to working out of town several days a week since September . I normally put about 1500-2000 miles on it a year.

I bought a Ranger and then drove it with my girlfriend from Seattle to Redwood NP, then to Crater Lake NP and then home, playing disc golf, looking at sea lions and drinking beers along the way. 1200 miles on this trip and about 4k total now.

The truck is comfortable enough and has no trouble getting to trail heads. Having said that, I'll keep my GX for a bit. The automatic transfer case is taking some getting used to and it will bottom out on deeper creek crossings. Flipside is that it's got no problem going 80 all day and feels pretty tight. Has enough safety stuff that's easy enough to turn off. Pretty basic, kinda boring rig that can tow some stuff and haul a little. Exactly what I was wanting and I'm happy with it, but the 320hp, 355tq tune is calling my name and the price can't be beat.

I think they do and it's no impediment when you weigh the maintenance costs vs. the hammer price (doubly so vs. maintenance costs for a Ferrari or Porsche). IMO there is still room for things to get weirder in the years to come

1996 Toyota Celica GT-Four, 188k~ kilometers, but maintained. I got it, checked the fluids, changed the oil, replaced a few suspension components (lower stabilizer bushings, end links, and the right side camber control arm), charged the AC but otherwise ran it hard in the Florida heat with zero problems. My wife took it this weekend out garage saling, lots of low speed stop and go business. It most certainly has not had 'all' its rubber replaced, nor gaskets.
Tonight it was sold and the guy drove it 3~ hours across the state. No longer mine, but it was this morning :colbert:

The vehicles I deal in are over 25 years old as a rule and that's just how it is. Run machine, maintain machine.
