Welp, I just listened to Butterfly 3000, guess I'll go buy it for real. I don't know if it's a good thing that because there's so many albums I can afford to be picky? I find I kinda prefer the closer to garage rock things from KG since there was a brief period of time when KG and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets sounded extremely similar with a big crashing wall of sound thing going on, and I don't feel the need to listen to or buy any KG from that time since I have the last two Crumpets albums. A weird and dumb justification but there it is.

Its weird, but I like all the musical elements there (especially the bass player heading towards a dub / Al Cisneros thing) but not the actual songs. I can't believe I never heard of Stonefield til this week. I get most of my music recommendations either in this thread, the stoner/doom thread, or my Spotify discover weekly/release radar. Spotify can be hit or miss but the the S/N ratio of the threads has been pretty great.

There are bands that are similar to aspects of their music, but I don’t know if there are any that would sound similar overall. That said, here are some albums I think you’d enjoy if you like Slift. Gondhawa - Käampâla (also from France, really diverse, genre bending stoner/psych, with some microtonal stuff thrown in, some kraut influences, and they sing in a moon language so you don’t even have to worry about lyrics) GLEN - PULL (instrumental stoner psych with longer songs, I’d say more similar to Elder than Slift, but worth checking out if you like both) Hollow Mirrors - II (this lacks the stoner influences until the last song, but otherwise it’s spacey, sometimes punky, sometimes proggy krautrock - less intense than Slift, though) Howling Giant - The Space Between Worlds and/or Alteration (Space Between etc. is their last proper album and has vocals, it’s spacey prog/psych rock with some good crunchy riffs - it lacks Slift’s improvisational/jammy side, but I’d place them in the same genre, roughly; Alteration is their latest release, an instrumental EP based on jams that they worked on during quarantine, it has some bangers) They also have a split release with Sergeant Thunderhoof, a concept album based on the lore of Masamune and Muramasa. It’s really good if you’re into proggy stoner stuff. I’d actually go as far as saying this is probably my favourite material from either band. Karkara - Nowhere Land (another French band, I’d actually say these guys are somewhat similar to Slift’s sound, but they’re less stoner and more motorik rhythms and claustrophobic guitars; similarly noisy and weird, though - and they have a didgeridoo and they don’t even overuse it) Korto - s/t (another French band, this time more uhh… motorik rhythms and open country roads? It’s poppy sometimes, but it's really intricate and sometimes really hard hitting rock; stoner side is completely absent) Pyramid - Mind Maze (really good instrumental kraut/stoner rock. Some really good riffs and song progressions. Probably one of my favourite albums in the style) I’m sure there are others but I guess I’ll stop here. I’ve been on a hell of a psych rock discovery trip for the past two years, and Slift were one of the first bands to pave the way for me. Them and Entropia - Vacuum, I guess. Anyway, let me know what you think if you ever get around to checking any of them out. edit: added Bandcamp links edit 2: lol, Gondhawa and Karkara are on Stolen Body Records. edit 3: to continue the Osees discussion from the stoner doom thread, imho their best album (that I've heard and gotten into, I should say) is Mutilator Defeated At Last. It's short and sweet (33 minutes), it has some really awesome guitar work from Dwyer, and he has some slightly demented, sing-songy vocals on this record that manage to work really well. I would actually add this album to my recommendation list above, as it has a spacey, driving, sometimes noisy garage rock feel that's somewhat similar to what Slift are peddling. Check out Web, Withered Hand (this even opens with a pretty Slift-sounding riff, despite coming out five years earlier), Sticky Hulks, Palace Doctor. Levitation has always had some FIRE lineups over the years, but having to spend a whole weekend in Austin to see bands is rough. At least you can buy tickets to the individual shows. GY!BE and LPD are playing here around that time so at least I can see some of that action in my own town. GY!BE should be good, and the Dots are always fun although I feel like nothing will capture the magic of the first time I saw them when they had the Silverman with them. The shows I've seen since are just the three of them and it's pretty much weird psychedelic hobbit shuffling around stage with weird keyboard sounds.

They were afraid of flash floods but there wasn’t a drop of rain. Luckily we made a great last minute camping trip out of it but unless they moved it I wouldn’t go again

Why make the trip to one remote location to do your think in the woods and get face melted by walls of sound when you can make the trip to a busy city and see bands spread across different venues! Bands you want to see the same night, but different spots? Hopefully they're close. Most of them are, but I think Hotel Vegas is a decent walk from Stubb's.
