What an annoying baseball game. Fair it was a ground rule double but that run stung at the end. Stanton's little league HR. Bullshit ejections. Slippery balls. Annoying.

Yankees stop hitting Aaron Hicks leadoff challenge.

Let's say Judge wins the MVP this season... I still don't think he gets a better deal than the Yankees offered him before the season because of his age and injury history.

Leadoff is the best spot in the lineup for Hicks. He's still very good at getting on base (.400 OBP), but he hasn't hit for any power whatsoever (0.286 SLG and 0.043 ISO). And you've said it yourself, he's a terrible situational hitter so it's better to have him hitting behind the bottom third of the lineup who are probably not going to be on base.

He should bat like 7th or 8th... I think you should bat your best hitters at the top of the lineup to get the most ABs.

I was just browsing Baseball Savant and saw this piece on how Greinke is thriving despite an absurdly low 6.6% strikeout rate this year, and it made me wonder about him reaching 3000 career strikeouts.

He's at 2819 right now, only 181 away which at first glance seems very doable for a future Hall of Famer still pitching well. But at his current rate of 2.7 K/9, he'll need another 603 innings to get there!

At his rate going back to the beginning of last year (5.7 K/9), he'd need another 285 innings.

So, does he get there? Will he find another gear and up the strikeout rate a bit? Or maybe he just cruises along like this for another 3-4 seasons?

I think the answer to that is a pretty simple one and it's the answer to just about every question regarding Greinke and that's "Who the gently caress besides Zack even knows?"

Prop bet: 3000 K or 10 HR, which does Greinke get first

I want to believe he'll get there (and the 4000 IP plateau as well), if he wasn't on the Royals he'd have fair shot at 250 wins. Come over to the Angels Zach, throw 6 IP every 6 days and pitch until you're 45.

Greinke still has a solid 10 years left, he's going to be the next Jamie Moyer.

Or he'll just wander off in the middle of a season and return to his home planet.

Yeah I think he was solely OF in Houston right? In Chicago they started dabbling with him at 2nd base, which is where he's played almost exclusively since he's got to Oakland.. although they have been sending him out to LF a bit this year because Oakland's lineup (and the players they have on hand to make that lineup) has been so wonky.

Tony Kemp... is definitely one of the top 3 players on the Oakland A's this year lol

I've had multiple older extended family members who have some vague sense of me as the "tech guy" reach out extremely confused asking wtf this whole crypto thing is about. These are people who I know would glaze over at even an extremely high level technical explanation so I just tell them it's a scam that's made confusing on purpose to trick them. I've convinced everybody so far but I just know there are other people out there who called up much dumber relatives who told them Web 3.0 is the future and they gotta get in quick with their savings :smith:

They are doing this in the NHL now too.. every intermission is filled with gambling bs where the panel highlights the real time updated betting lines for the game and tries to convince people that there is value to be had on making bets in line with whatever narrative they are pushing about the game. Very disappointing to that these leagues would whore their fanbase out to the casinos and crypto scammers for sure..

well with gambling at least it is generally understood / acknowledged that there is a house edge.. or at the very least there isn't a PR campaign that gambling is the best way to build your financial future and that if you don't dump all your money into sports bets you'll be left behind in the dust.
