Here goes another one. Never heard of it so it's probably small potatoes

its rank is lower than PonziCoin, which sits at number 2811

Guys, I think you've bee missing something really important. The Lightning Network means bitcoin can now process 40 million transactions per second*!

https://twitter.com/Blockstream/status/1502115599874359297

*Actually 500 transactions per second in each of the 80,000 channels** that are currently on the network.

**No, there is no guarantee that the existing channels will be able to route between you and the place where you want to conduct your transaction.

I can see why someone would call pirateat40's ponzi quaint given all the bigger, crazier bullshit thats happened since but the big underrated reason why that ponzi did so much damage back then isn't because of the ponzi itself, its because it took out all the other various ponzis with it because they too had put their money into bitcoin savings & trust and when that popped it created a whole domino earthquake that hosed up EVERYONE

i'm looking very forward to the same kind of domino earthquake when the tether scam pops, inshallah

Good thing everything is on the blockchain so it'll be easy to audit the transactions and... what do you mean like 99.99% of crypto is traded outside the chain?

good thread here about telling friends to invest in gamble on crypto: https://www.reddit.com/r/terraluna/comments/uqqff0/my_friends_who_i_recommended_luna_too_all_hate_me/

quote:

Many angry calls and loud knocking at my door from former friends I told to buy Luna early,I feel like poo poo we all lost our life savings and they have kids. What do I do?

quote:

Exactly! Wild how everyone is so quick to defend OP in this, sorry OP if you tell people to invest in something and it doesn’t go well there is going to be an emotional attachment to that that you don’t get to run away from. How much they put in is up to them yeah, but I’ll tell you if the original folks that told me crypto was the way to go, if I never crossed their paths, drat would I be in a better financial spot right now.

quote:

Many friends often asked me what to buy. I was always reluctant to recommended anything strongly. I would talk about the different competitors but would never strongly recommend one specific coin. Then I found LUNA. I had such strong conviction in the mission and tokenomics that I had no problem recommending LUNA to crypto noobs looking for their first allocation. I told friends and family about LUNA. I feel bad that they lost money. I feel embarrassed due to the egg on my face. I feel poor after losing so much money I thought would appreciate.

It was very Madoff-like in that you have to be part of the select few allowed to invest in it. So pass-through and other feeder funds were all the rage. Even if the fund took a good chunk of your returns it was still a drat good deal, something that could even be called to good to be true.

He also advertised the site on bitcointalk using an account with his real email address that included his name or something like that. Which is one of the ways they figured out who he was in the first place.

Lol yeah. Like the feds just combed the internet for the earliest mention of Silk Road and it was his bitcointalk account registered under his own email being like "Oh hello, my fellow bitcoiners. My FRIEND told me about this site where you can buy anything with bitcoin. Seems cool I'm gonna check it out."

The super cyber detective found him by utilising the advanced technique of setting a date range in google and searching for the first mention of the name. Fancy skills. - efb-

Iirc the email was just his full name, his username was Altiod. He used that name on shroomery forums promoting SR, and the cops got the email with a subpoena.

Frosty was the name he used, I think, on a forum for coding, where he was asking TOR related stuff.
Frosty also was the name he was using as admin of Silk Road, shown in a pic of his screen when they nabbed him
