Man, if only NFTs had to be minted in an distributed, secure, open ledger that anybody has access to this kinda scam couldn't happen.

But actually downloading and checking the ledger is such a pain, better trust a handful of centralized services to do that for you.

i love dollar cost averaging, instead of being the absolute loser that bought X of asset when it was 50k but it's now worth 20k, buy a lot more at 20k then average out the price so you can pretend to be the smart, handsome guy that bought X*n of asset when it was 30k but it's now worth 20k:yayclod:

It just means someone is burning tokens. Presumably that means someone is getting an equal amount of USD in exchange but it could also just be Tether unwinding previously issued tokens with no actual deposits behind them.

they used to put all sorts of people on money, not just presidents. i gave up on completely fixing this because the original is an absolute mess and i was just using them as printer tests, but william l. marcy (secretary of state, secretary of war, ny gov. etc) pops up a lot:

i could post a ton of Old Money designs that are rad if people want me to i guess but we're now in derail territory

e: also everything i've posted has been 50% sized, so you can see why they'd be useful for testing print resolution

you see in crypto, counterfeiting is impossible due to the magic of the immutable ledger

since someone once mined 184 billion bitcoins, literally 99.99% of all bitcoins ever created were counterfeits

when all 21 million "legit" bitcoins are eventually mined then that'll get the number down to 99.989%, but that's as good as it can get

yeah, it's been theorized before that one way Tether issues USDT is by printing up a bunch of unbacked USDT and lending it to an affiliate or a crypto exchange (and then recording that loan balance as one of their reserve assets). if that theory was correct, then it's possible that what we're seeing here is borrowers returning their borrowed USDT to Tether in satisfaction of their loans, rather than Tether actually redeeming USDTs for cash.
