I found my mum no more or less annoying than anyone else bumbling around on the face of the earth, and for some reason many people have insisted I'm a decent person (afk, of course) which I've alwayssaid was down to her instilling an ok set of neural filters into me, which i've tried to refine.
so, as a parent and person, I've often respected her. but just like anyone else including myself, she can be an rear end in a top hat.

I mostly get confused by how they never notice they are watching a standard definition television station. Shouldn't it at least be obvious that the picture doesn't fill up the screen?

My parents are really cool and have done a lot in the last 5 years to try and expand their horizons and get even cooler. Plus now I'm older and appreciate a lot of the stuff they did for me.

My father in law is a homeless alcoholic who’s in the hospital on suicide attempt rn and he blames my wife not calling for it. Super hosed up and makes her feel lovely! But also his reaction to us calling and saying we’re adopting a child was “I don’t want anything to do with them because it’s not my genetic heritage.” Like duh, why the hell would we pass on your genetic heritage.

Pretty annoying!!

my dad tells the same stories and asks the same questions all the time and he watches the TV way too loving loud and gets mad when I come in and turn it down. and they won't get rid of cable because they love commercials i assume and they keep buying the Post, which at least I can draw on but cmon stop buying the Post. also i told my mom not to buy my son paw patrol stuff because the show portrays pigs positively & i hate that bitch pig Chase and the little boy "Rydyr" and all the rest can get euthanized and what does she do but buy him paw patrol poo poo featuring the pig dog anyway and that annoys me.

sides from that we have a good relationship and i probably couldn't raise kids if they didn't live down the road

my parents are weird and pretty bad, and yes they annoy me pretty often if i interact with them. here are a few of the worst bits:

they are white supremacists, and not the kind where they keep it to themselves. taught my siblings and i when we grew up that hitler was right to do the holocaust, constant slurs, tier lists of races and ethnicities, the whole works. they are a little more quiet about it in public now than when i grew up, but in private, it's all still there. i grew up believing all that stuff because of them and didn't shed it off until i left home for college. my brother never stopped believing it.

they became antivax during the pandemic, believe in every conspiracy you can imagine, including: masks are harmful, covid is a chinese weapon designed to remove our sense of smell, vaccines are killing millions and the democrats won't let you know (have you heard of VAERS??), the vaccinated are shedding covid and that's why my parents keep catching it (which, in reality they have only tested positive once, but believe and treat as absolute fact that they've caught it multiple times including in 2019). they are also not shy about telling everyone they meet in public about this stuff anytime they can wedge it into a conversation. at least they tip the waiters who have to listen to it well.

they have very few friends to help enforce social norms on them. my mom is friends with a small number of other moms, though the only close friend she had died many years ago, and i've only known my dad to ever have 2 friends in the nearly 40 years i've been alive, who were both extreme eccentrics. otherwise their only social contact is with their small families who live 1000+ miles away, and few are still alive at this point.

it's exhausting being around them because they don't really do much other than go to restaurants, and so the only subjects they can talk about aside from their pets are whatever they last saw on tucker or health issues.

probably the only good thing they ever did was leave the church, although they still maintain all the puritanical beliefs they grew up with. there's just no lore or sunday service attached anymore. they were also good parents in the bare minimum sense that they didn't abuse or completely neglect their kids. they were repressive and authoritarian, but at least home felt safe.

i still keep limited contact with them. the resentment i used to feel toward them has been mostly reduced to pity, but they are still annoying people to be around for sure.

Biohazard

My mom get's under my skin at times, almost none of which is her fault and is almost entirely on me for being an inpatient rear end in a top hat, so I try really hard these days to take a deep breath appreciate that at 75, she's remarkably sharp and still very healthy. Honestly I'd probably have fallen apart multiple times in my life if it weren't for her, so I try and remember that poo poo and try to not be such a punk rear end bitch.

My relationship with my dad is a lot more complicated and my feelings swing wildly between deep admiration, deep seeded pain and hurt, and occasional seething rage. Annoying isn't really a word I'd used to describe him. Mostly these days it's just fine though.
