so either you're the one making decisions or the one doing the thing. if neither, then yeah you shouldn't probably be in that meeting.

the meeting was “here’s the entirety of our project and its expected timeline, we need your entire team here to answer our questions and stop us if anything sounds like it wouldn’t be doable for you”

which to be fair, it mighta succeeded in doing its job on that last point! cause that project’s lead sounded notably deflated at the end.

They probably should have just made the new unicode behavior something you could opt out of at the file level rather than doing a hard break but I guess they underestimated how amazingly whiny their users are

was perl the one where they made breaking changes and decided to go with a new name for an added layer of confusion?

It takes like 2 minutes to just throw some code up in a repository, come on. Now having said that I fully expect a drive failure to happen to me.

I don't think the brand of drive really matters if you're buying one of the big boys.
Also, I've completely sworn off spinning disks and haven't had any failures yet (knock on wood)

Consider this little comparison: if the read/write head were a Boeing 747, and the hard-disk platter were the surface of the Earth:

- The head would fly at Mach 800
- At less than one centimeter from the ground
- And count every blade of grass
- Making fewer than 10 unrecoverable counting errors in an area equivalent to all of Ireland.
