There was definitely something that got lost when people weren't right up on the stage anymore. But looking back it's surprising how little security is there despite the size of the crowd. Also, on a similar tangent, it always sucked seeing some of the smaller games in the Mandalay Bay where maybe 15-25% of the seats are filled at best. If those games were held on Saturday in the main room there'd be a much better vibe/audience, and it'd also just look better from a stream perspective. Instead you only got closeup shots of people in the crowd, and barely any wide angle shots because otherwise you'd be showing off an empty arena. The fluctuation in crowds between games is a problem at any event, even outside of videogames, but from a viewer perspective it looks worse and worse the larger the event gets. It reminds me of the big package metal/punk/rock tours like Summer Slaughter, Warped, Mayhem, Ozzfest, etc. There can be too much of a good thing, and nobody wants to go to a concert that starts at 11 am especially if they plan on sticking around till the end.

They've already been broken quite a bit, with a lot of links leading nowhere which I guess is a consequence of moving to Discourse. But since Discourse's search indexing also sucks it makes some things super hard to find even when you've got a thread recapitulating all useful links.
