They have a fun frenemies type of relationship up to this point that I wonder how much was intended in the script and how much was actor chemistry. that is still one of my favourite scenes. along with the scene much later between Gkar and aaaaaaa Vir aaaaaaaa in the elevator doorway. G'kar's actor is so so loving good at doing these... emotive scenes while still showing us levity at other points

S1E10, Believers
i think i can see why that random guy on the internet said to skip this one. though for all I know maybe the Gloppit Egg becomes the main villain of Season 4, no spoilers

Believers is mainly interesting in that it is an extremely obvious and over the top “gently caress you” to the way Star Trek would have handled the same exact plot line. The result isn’t necessarily good, but it’s a flag in the ground about how B5 is going to be different.

Angepain posted:[*]the various ambassadors tell the parents to gently caress off with varying levels of kindness. love the Vorlon just calling them tiny pebbles, like yeah what other answer were you expecting I think this goes back to the pilot. The parents ask Kosh how he would feel if a human doctor operated on him without his consent, which is exactly what happened in the pilot of B5. So his comment of "the avalanche has already started, it's too late for the pebbles to vote" might be an allusion that he already was operated on without his consent. At least that's my interpretation. It occurs to me now that he might also be speaking about the doctor operating on the kid in this exact moment. It's been a while since I saw Believers, would the timing work for this interpretation?

I feel like with a lot of shows you might be better off skipping episodes here and there, especially if you're not all the way into the show, it cuts down on getting tired of the show, especially with the rougher, earlier bits. The problem with doing that for Babylon 5 though is that there's an overarching narrative that builds throughout the show, and it's hard to even sort out which episodes don't have much of that because there's a lot of little crumbs that it's easy to forget about, so even tips from people who know the show are unreliable. If you want the whole thing, you gotta deal with its bizarre flaws.

S1E22, "Chrysalis" season finale so i assume something dramatic is going to happen
I don't have any particular end-of-season thoughts beyond what I put in my first couple posts here. I guess generally it seems like there's been a lot more setup than payoff, which I guess tracks with what I've heard all the nerds on the internet say about having to get through the first season. It hasn't had a stand-out holy-poo poo great episode yet, but it's been a decent time so far and there have been some good moments that show some promise. Still on board to keep watching. Particularly looking forward for the Gloppit Egg to become a fully developed character at the centre of the plot.

The first season finale was really strange, it seemed like there should have been some big reveal or final event but it just sort of ends relatively flatly like “see you next season!”
|
# ? May 23, 2022 21:08 |

There is a lot of setup. It all pays off though, don't worry--just remember the show is structured from the jump for five complete seasons and there's stuff in the first season that won't resolve until the fourth or fifth.
|
# ? May 23, 2022 21:12 |

Although unlike certain storytelling styles, it isn't all setup no payoff for four seasons. Things do get explained/resolved at a reasonable pace.

I don't think it really sells the idea well as an integral part of the station, but they do try.
