the bitrate is loving dogshit. it looks bad on my 720p 40" from 2009. i have no idea how you fuckos with 60" 4k hdr sets tolerate it. cancel netflix and just download thing.

I’ve probably asked this a million times at this point but this month has three paycheques and I’ve been eying a synology to act as a combo seed box / plex server / iCloud replacement but idk which one has enough juice for it if I have to build a separate computer I think I would rather pay the fee

correctamundo. i run 4x 8t easystores in mine and have run it really hard, and they're still good. the 420+ series just can't do transcoding, which isn't really a big deal. I went full yospos and now i run plex on my 6700k linux box and mount the NAS via NFS for the movies, so i can transcode anything i want, but that was just because it offended me on principle. direct play will work fine all day long and synos only draw like 20-30w maybe. easy on the power bill. protip: get a couple cheap 256g NVME sticks and set up the cache drive. it increases iops massively for when you're using it as a Time Machine target.

i have an unraid setup and i like it a lot. probably the best $50 i've spent on computer nerd stuff of course it helps that i had the computer and some disks sitting around and then just added storage, nvme, etc over the course of a year or two. it's old a f so certainly not the most power efficient but it sure does do all the needfuls
