The Beast Below is fun and it does a good job of setting up the relationship between the Doctor and the companion, which is something I feel like they never quite nailed again afterward. I think they wound up finding it with Clara but it was well into Twelve's run. Bill and Jodie's gang are great, I just don't think they did as good a job of establishing "this is why this incarnation of the Doctor wants to travel with this person, and why that person wants to travel with the Doctor. Speaking of this I have to hand it to Moffat that he showed restraint and didn't inject any River Song poo poo into the 50th. The 50th was as good as it could've been given Eccleston's refusal to be a part of it and the huge time gap between the earlier generation of Doctors and the younger more active ones, my one note being that they should've just made The Night of the Doctor (maybe a trimmed down version) the cold open for the episode. Which is why it would be a bummer if Tennant is the only one involved in the 60th since now we have potentially 5 active Doctors to crossover.

It'd honestly be pretty funny if they just reuse the same old clip of 9 they used in "Day of the Doctor" to include him. Make it part of the whole thing til he comes back, if he ever does. Every ten years, same clip.
