I was wearing a Formula 1 cap when I was picking up my McDonalds order and the cashier commented about it and we started talking about F1. It was a nice interaction.

To be fair, LTT Store is like the furthest thing from drop shipping as you can get. They definitely keep stock as much as they can, they usually don't even accept pre-orders and, as far I know, they only do pre-orders for the backpack because fans have been hounding them to. Plus, I'm pretty sure the orders they take are for units that are already somewhere in the manufacturing process.

Ever since they opened LTT Store I've had the feeling that it's just Linus designing things that he wants and subsidizing the cost to fans. LTT-branded boxer briefs don't make a whole lot of sense, but maybe in like 1999 he had one pair of underwear that he really liked and could never find it again so he had someone design his perfect pair and now you can buy it too! I have no doubt that his stuff is expensive because there's quite a bit of design and quality manufacturing in them, but it also means that it's at the same price point than regular mid-high grade equivalent which have a longer track record of making the same thing and, yeah, isn't branded by a tech influencer.

On the other hand, if what you really want is to give money to Linus, you could do worse than getting a very nice desk mat or water bottle in exchange.

For me I think any item of clothing where the question 'what's that logo about' invites a super awkward and alienating answer is probably a nope.

Like "uhhh it's the logo for a consumer reviews website for computer components". I just don't see there being any way to answer that question without sounding like Roast Beef from Achewood.

But also wear whatever the hell you want so long as it isn't swastikas

Yeah sure but like a lot of merch, like the GN tshirts, are much fuller bigger designs.

Thanks guys! It's going ok so far. It's not perfect as you point out VG0031 but better than nothing. Happy Saturday!

I moved to an HDMI 2.1 receiver recently along with big floorstanders for my AV setup and I probably should have been smarter and known there would be downsides. In the end, big speakers are not great for PC use unless you plan to actually exert the volume necessary to drive them, or you'll be like me and have constant issues with normalizations.

Also, how many times in your life have you ever had an interaction with a stranger about crap on a t-shirt, either asking or being asked, when the other person didn't already know what the thing was? It's zero for me.

Actual friends have asked, in particular I have a GB VinnCo shirt that got some questions. And they probably asked because I don't wear a ton of logo shirts so it stood out more.

i also don't like them but like what is the upside to wearing a product t shirt if i don't want other people to look at and associate with/communicate with me about product? and to be clear them asking about it and knowing what it is is the doomsday scenario

i'm not against merch even though it's not to my taste generally, i think i've even complemented the GN modmats itt - logical and desirable product for the market, clever functionality and targeting exactly when i wanna think about gamers nexus or buildin computers.

Lol this is splitting hairs you can find the idea of wearing a consumer tech review site logo embarrassing because you think it looks very awkward, and maybe it looks very awkward because it's merch about a consumer tech review site.

Pathological is maybe a stretch. It's just not to some people's taste because it makes them cringe a little to think of dressing like that. That's just how fashion works. If it doesn't make you cringe, that's fine too. But it's reasonable for people to not wanna dress like the cliche of a big computer guy, even if you are totally a big computer guy.

also more generally i'm aware of that + the screwdriver + the lab represents a huge huge expansion for LTT as a company, it feels like all the big players i watch are currently undergoing expansion - LTT, GN, Jay, HUB i think even Dawid has been buying new space doing much much more expensive videos recently, he took an international trip. it must be really really lucrative to make youtube tech videos but man i hope that model remains sustainable for long enough to pay for all these investments. i guess that's ultimately what floatplane is for.

Dawid got a separate studio space to shoot videos in a couple years ago instead of doing everything in his apartment I think, but he hasn't done anything else as far as I'm aware of? It's still just him and his wife working on the channel, and I think that recent trip to England was for other reasons and he decided to do a video for a British prebuilt while he was there. Not to get too weird about it, but I always thought I detected a hint of Irish or Welsh in his accent somehow, like maybe he is from Poland, learned English somewhere in the British isles, and then moved to Canada?

I only started watching him this year, but Dawid has become one of my favorite tech tubers. He's just a really goofy guy—not in the typical grating youtube way, but in a way that's perfectly suited to all the various awful PC hardware he showcases on his channel.

Turns out he's eating mega poo poo for flaking out on any solid warranty policy, so that could be a fun meltdown to watch.

Wrt the premium pricing, I'm choosing to believe that it is genuinely how long this thing has been hyped and how many revisions they have rather than brand awareness like the big players. One of the brands that was top of my radar was a relative startup by an ex special forces guy and the prices were far higher, Id like to think it's more a factor of relatively small production volumes being compounded by poor shipping infrastructure. If the bag is poo poo I will absolutely cry foul about it and accept my gamble to trust an unknown.

you can buy a backpack with a laptop sleeve from osprey for that money. or buy an actual hardcore camping backpack (which could comfortably hold your midtower desktop) from them for that money. both of them come with a warranty that goes something like "do you have any scrap of record that this backpack existed at some point before you had it torn to pieces by a shark? okay here's a complete replacement"

like oof linus that's a real hard price to sell in that market
