Freedom Planet 2, which I thought was canceled, just dropped a couple days back. Sitting on 97% with 233 reviews, also has a demo if you want to test it out. Haven't played far yet, but it addresses my main complaints with the first. Characters look less like sonic fan art and more like their own thing, which is visually very nice and also communicates how these characters play. That ties into the second major fix - all 4 characters are equally fun to play and are very different, the first had 2 good characters and a 3rd that was terrible to play. Overall there's a clearer sense focus on making their own game instead of a tribute. Total blast all around so far in my limited experience. However the is a massive drawback in that this game doesn't have a "classic" mode that let's you turn the story off. The writing is 100% in line with Saturday morning cartoons with an anime bent, and it's kind of a lot. The best thing I have to say is that it is earnest, there's not cynical motives here, but I'm way to old for this kind of story I guess.

It doesn’t look like it’s playable without knowing Japanese, though, judging from the video and only one short review being in English. Does anyone know otherwise? No it's very well translated, and the idea is incredible. However I was a bit bored by it. Could've used less minigames and randomness and instruction and more strategy I think, which would've been simpler for the devs anyways. Still a very unique piece of software that is cool to see. But may actually be better for children. But maybe if I get through a bit more it'll get more challenging.

So there is some, and the only thing is based on time so mission choices and choices within missions makes some difference. But I can't really say completely as I'm only like one third through my first playthrough. And I don't tend to replay games that much anyways. Mainly I just really like how they've designed the mechanics of the system, with the use of skills and resources to move forward and the way the entire game uses only cards and counters, no board or dice or anything yet has an interesting narrative still.

Play posted:https://store.steampowered.com/app/1132980/There_Is_No_Light/ Wanted to give a quick review of this one: I like it. I do have some complaints, the environments are massive and I do wish there was a little more to do and find in them. I also wish the upgrade system was a little more robust, upgrades don't actually change all that much. They help but don't alter the regular gameplay. The good: amazing art, challenging and rewarding gameplay, somewhat interesting grimdark world, good music, and controls feel pretty good. It also seems like a really long game, I've put in a bunch of hours and I seem to be at the first main boss out of 4. I like how with the bosses they seem impossible when you first come upon them. But once you learn the tricks and apply them correctly it becomes totally doable. The combat definitely is not easy, but it's not so hard that it'll put the average gamer off. It's very fast paced and designed around building up special meter, using the special at the right moment, and not being too shy to get in there as many enemies regain health and require the correct combo to put them down. If you like this kind of 3/4 view action gameplay and think the art and worldbuilding look interesting you will probably love it.
