Doesn't concrete rely on a kind of sand that is limited? Wonder if it will be concrete based going forward.

you'll see small-scale brickworks in the exurbs building outward: groups of 5-10 dudes mixing and pressing fresh cinderblocks. dunno what they use

That child totally had it coming. Nobody should be able to be out at dusk except cars.
The sand in concrete is just used as an aggregate, a solid something for the cement to bind together, so it's not too important what exactly it is. The cement is made from clay, limestone and gypsum usually, all of which are pretty common.

It is wild how those protests spiraled out of control and the Iran deal fell through within days of Iran shipping drones to Russia.

Not quite, the US generally wants higher levels of oil production and as long as they stayed out of the war it could have theoretically worked but Iran already is too close to China and OPEC is fairly unified at this point.

There was a valiant attempt but it was too late to flip the Iranians.

It wasn’t the first time it happened, but never let a good opportunity go to waste.

It does look like the government is containing it though.

It's not like this is the first time Iran's had major protests break out either. The repressive religious policies are genuinely extremely unpopular in the major cities, and Raisi escalated them over the summer. I'm not opposed to the idea that the CIA would want to help amplify underlying sentiment or whatever, but at some point attributing everything to Western intelligence sounds pretty similar to people who say every protest in the US is a Russian op.

The US has its pressure points in the country, but the timing couldn’t be more spot on (right after the Saudis rejected a deal with the US and then the US attempted to turned to Iran), and besides there are connection between the protests and US backed factions in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Absolutely there is anger, but the question is when the situation is pushed.

Also, I would be careful in assuming that either the government or its policies are universally hated, the last election shows there is still a large percentage of the population, maybe even a bare majority that support those type of policies.

That's why I restricted the point to major cities, which are less conservative than the countryside, as seems to be the case pretty much everywhere. Also Iranian elections are kind of a sham though. I'm not saying there aren't any conclusions to be drawn from them, but when the hardline leaders choose who's even allowed to run in the first place, it both limits the actual representation allowed and makes some people boycott elections. I personally know an Iranian who says she never voted because she considers even Khatami to be a piece of poo poo for supporting the Islamic Republic, and obviously the regime has cracked down on allowing even his movement near power again since then. Rouhani aligned with the reformers for his reelection campaign in particular, but he's definitely closer to Khamenei than Khatami was.
