from the blurb it's clearly a porn video library

it has two features:
1. download internet videos from any site so you can watch them offline
2. password protect your internet videos so that no-one can look at your internet videos

I had an excite email address all through college. then one night I was drunk and decided it was high time to change my excite password (as one does)

that’s the story of how I got a Gmail account.

my corner of northern Indiana had a regional isp that provided Usenet access with dial up service back in the late 90s/early 00s and it blew my mind when I moved to the Bay Area that Silicon Valley of all places didn't have regional isps and it was Comcast/att only.

Don't you just hate when you wind up in a store with people who are in a socioeconomic class that is pretty obviously about two levels lower than your own?

At college, the IT people were loathe to change anyone's username unless there was a very strong reason to do it. Your username was chosen by you, an idiot 18 year old children who wants to get blackout drunk for the first time away from home, and barring something near the level of a legal name change that's the username you kept the whole time. This is why I received a very polite email from fuckshit@university.edu complimenting me on my help in the computer lab. I got to have a fun conversation with the lab manager about wait what how the gently caress do you keep that username, let alone get it??

In retrospect I absolutely should have picked something like dickballs@. Ah well.

we get 4 random alphanumerics but the peeps who have been there over 10 or so years have custom usernames from the older policy, super unfair

my school does initials plus year you started. if there were other people with those initials, you get an extra letter starting with a appended to the end. because i’m an idiot who can’t stop getting degrees i still have an id an email from 2008 that i use as a student now. they stopped using these ids (with smart chips) in 2009 and just have regular magnetic strip ids. the magnetic strip on my old one still works, so i roll with it.

because of that, my official photo for the school and the one that pops up on teacher rosters is 14 years old at this point. back then i was clean shaven and in the navy. now i’m old and bald with a big beard. always fun when i meet a prof for the first time and they have to double take from my picture to make sure it is actually me.

I was assigned initial + last name @ieng9.ucsd.edu and then somehow got the same one on @weber.ucsd.edu, and somehow hosed things up enough that the forwarder I put on the weber machine took over for the mapping from @ucsd.edu to @ieng9 one after I left and then I kept getting random people's emails long after I was gone from both.

it helps that there are only about 5 people on the entire planet with the same name as me, and one of them is my dad

university emails were handed out automatically with <5 letters of last name><first & middle initial>@...edu. your email username was also your login for all university related stuff
