we were assigned usernames when I went to college -- first initial, middle initial, first four of last name, and a 2 digit number. John W Smith might be jwsmit01. 0's used for padding anywhere a name didn't fit. I felt bad for some of the Chinese students with usernames like y0yu0023. the last two universities i've worked for allowed you to choose your username when you first started though. i came really close to being pinball@ last go round.

the only thing that really jumped out at me after watching it again was the watermelon bit. i guess him sleeping in the car rather than having a bunk could also be a thing. if anything i'm a little surprised there isn't *more* overt racism in a cartoon from the 1940s
