I just got solar panels on my house so now wheneverthe sun is out i get free energy and can do stuff like use my computer to post or charge my phone to be able to make posts on that too it is pretty cool that you can basically just get free electricity from the sky and i think it is real good and everyone should be doing it except it isnt actually free it costs kinda a lot but for my house it costs a little less to pay the bank for the loan to buy the stuff to get the free energy than it cost to pay the utilities company to give us energy and also we get a pretty good tax credit for doing it because California cares about the environment. Sometimes it might not be a good choice, my neighbor has solar panels on his house and he says they arent worth it but he is also into crypto mining so I think he probably uses a lot more electricity and also his opinions about things are probably the opposite of what is smart here is a picture of my dogs they also like to get energy by being in the sun a lot but htey are alive so I think it is called photosyntesis  Do you have solar panels or are thinking about getting htem? Do you think that sun energy is good or do you prefer alternative methods of energy? Do you think there are angry rednecks out there somewhere that are all pissed off about solar panels like they are about electric vehicles? Is ther e an energy use equivalent to rolling coal (cryptomining maybe XD) anyway talk about energy and the sun and energy from the sun to power things in thies thread please I used the box tag becuse it is right below the HOT tag which would have been the more relevant tag but i did not want to get banned for posting this thread

Also it's really cool when people are being more energy conscious and using less electricity, so the local power company decides to increase their flat monthly service charges so they still make their money

I’ve had them for about two years now, with no regrets. I sell my excess energy to the power company which then goes into the general grid, and only pay for power when the panels aren’t pulling enough. No shortage of direct FU-intensity sunlight in north Texas and my roof has excellent exposure. It’s nice to go out in the yard and yell at the sun. You work for me now, bitch.

I've got 16 x 400 watt (6400 watts) of panels on the roof. On a perfect sunny day it maxes out about 5200 watts, which I think is the limit of the inverter. The power company charges us $0.40 /KWh to use their electricity when the sun goes down, and pays us $0.05 /KWh for the excess we generate during the day. This is the power output from yesterday. It was pissing down rain most of the day and overcast, but it still cranks it out.  Solar is good poo poo

I’m getting my panels installed next month. The whole thing was kind of a no-brainer. Pay $130 a month to the electric company at a 3% increase in price every year, or pay $90 flat per month to the solar company until my solar equipment is paid off, after which my electricity is essentially free. I read somewhere that a giant sun blocking mirror in space is actually a pretty good solution to global warming. And you can do things with the reflected sunlight, like power a moon base or something. Idk sounds less stupid than relying on anything else. The guy who was talking about it was a real scientist too, not some looney, so who knows might be something there. Mr. Burns for president I guess.

I've done a bit of solar. 13 years doing system design, sales, tech support. Mostly off-grid battery based systems but I also got a lot of the grid-tie calls and designs. It's been three years, so I'm a bit rusty. Done three installs; two for my parents, one for myself. My electrician brother helped on those jobs so that was fun. My sister and BIL got a grid-tie system a few years back. Panels in a good sunny area on the roof and all that. I always check the metrics off the equipment when I visit, and they are off-setting 30-50% of their electric bill. They are about 5 years in on the investment and it has definitely paid for itself in terms of money going to the electrical company. I don't believe there is a single magic bullet to solve humanity's energy needs. Gotta do a bit of everything. But, solar done right kicks rear end.

I think wind turbine generators are stupid and it makes me sad to know that Donald Trump agrees with me. I guess that’s not relevant to the OP but I guess we could put a solar panel on the windmill and then I could hate them both together. I also hate the OP for making my think about this on a Friday evening where could have been doing other things. I’m sorry, that’s not true, I don’t hate anyone but I do hate those loving wind generators.
