Video game preservation is extremely difficult. Emulation helps with this, but the bottom line is that we are going to have to accept that some games will just be lost forever.

Microsoft should just go ahead and buy all gaming companies, put everything on their servers.

And also on game pass.

I still tried Persona 5 against my better judgment, but after about 45 minutes I uninstalled it after I realized that I was just watching a single giant cutscene that started after the intro.

No idea how much longer I had to endure it but I was getting slightly annoyed.

I don't really dislike VN's, and I like games with lots of reading, but mostly in the genre of point-and-click where the reading is mixed with some gameplay.

Could also be that the story wasn't really grabbing me, it was a bit about everything and nothing at the same time. Perhaps I'm just missing a lot background info since I've never played the other ones.

I’m making a note here: huge success.

The first chapter or two of the story are by far the strongest part of the story, so yeah if you aren't grabbed by the time you meet Kamoshida then it's just not your game. And nah, playing the other ones wouldn't really matter either way except giving you more knowledge of what to expect.

The games are highly satirical of Japanese society so that may be part of the problem.

I'm about 5 hours into Persona 3 and it's fine but not much is happening. Like it's less exciting than my actual high school years.

Nah. Game has truly awful pacing. Whether that bothers someone is down to personal taste, but holy gently caress the beginning of it is so slow.

Persona games have great music, stellar art direction ( particularly the personas themselves), some fun characters, and they put all that into the longest, most glacially paced jrpgs I have ever played.

I watched my girlfriend play way too much persona 5 and can tell you the cutscenes are the good part. The repetitious combat and music is mind numbing.

Persona 5 is great but yeah it is very slow. I still say Persona 4 Golden is the best. It's still long but you get most of the crew together a lot faster.

They really are huge time sinks though.

Persona dungeon design is very tedious imo they could be edited way down and if they still want the length they could make side quests to explore the whole thing

It's a slow burn (my dread) since they decided to tie major plot beats to the full moon. For what it's worth, I think it's the best of the new batch in terms of themes and characterization. I do recognize that Tartarus sucks though.

Yeah the only thing of note I've been doing was exploring Tartarus and beating mostly scrub enemies and now I maxed out on that till presumably the next full moon so I'm really not doing anything except visiting a book store and playing an MMO.

The characters are weirdly likable despite not being much of anything yet.

Yeah, I'm doing an optimal run myself so it's a bit dull, but more S Links open up over time. I wish I could say the dungeon crawling gets better, but the story does go places (and the music is fantastic)

Why do you need a boat just plug it in and throw it in the bathtub while you are taking a bath. You get to destroy your Xbox and get clean at the same time. 2 birds with one stone as they say.

Be sure you attach the xbox firmly to your ankle with a nice strong chain or nylon rope before throwing it in the ocean

Maxing out all S Links in one run and doing all the Velvet Room requests. Means needing a lot of money to boost social stats early on.

replaying persona 5 for the 2nd time on the game pass really hammered home how much of a waste of time the Persona games tend to be. It's masquerading as a dating/high school sim but most of the characters have inane one-note personalities or are unpleasant dumbbells. you're toiling through weeks of the school year just for the reward of a profile pic turning into a blushing one. the actual gameplay is borderline inane and braindead once you discover an enemy weakness and just spam it in every encounter. After 50ish hours of P5 I'm at the final palace but don't even have the gumption to finish it.
