It's not like the person who is the credited writer of an episode wrote the entire script. They wrote the first outline. You can listen to the "Whiting Wongs" podcast for Harmon and Jessica Gao talking about the process, but basically, the room adds a lot but Harmon still does his own rewrite and has final say on everything. Roiland's contribution to the show, especially after season 2, was mostly a few ideas, some visual stuff, and his vocal talents.

I think Dan is a complicated man who did some crappy things in the past but that he seems committed to self improvement and honest reflection, the fact of the matter is that we didn't hear about any toxic behavior coming from Dan since like 2013, I think it's not fair to put Dan and justin in the same category. Dan was an abusive boss towards Megan Ganz and other people a decade ago, he never assaulted anyone. In anyway, I love R&M, I'm a harmon fan and I really loved Justin's schtick on the show, I really struggle to see R&M recovering from this, I got a hunch it's going to be a gas leak season all over again, I also kinda struggle to imagine Harmon being enthused about the whole thing from now on, Justin was a major creative driving force on the show, trying to do it without him will very quickly feel like mimicry. So yeah, this is the end of R&M pretty much, sucks. gently caress you Justin you goddamn idiot you had the world at your hands and you just had to go about being a violent idiot.

Dan Harmon's been pretty open about his dad's physical abuse and while Harmon's reconciled with his father to a degree I'm not sure the same amount of leeway might extend to someone who's merely a close friend.

Having someone you worked with for the last decade be outed as a pedophile and spouse abuser can't be particularly fun so if they do address it in a fourth wall break it wouldn't expect it to be something flippant. Either Roiland gets memory holed and its never brought up entirely, or any comments made on it will be vicious. What I'm curious about is the whole "Created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland" thing that splashes up at the start of every episode. if thats contractually required to be there or what.

The production company that makes R&M is a shared venture started by Harmon and Roiland, I don't think there's any constellation in which the show keeps getting made (and airs on reruns\syndication) and he doesn't profit from it, like, it's his production company, unless he voluntarily gives it up they can't make R&M without some profits going to Roiland. There ain't going to be ten seasons.

I stopped following this thread when the season ended, and when I'd pop into TVIV and see triple-digit unread posts, I figured it was another Star Trek thread that I only follow during active seasons. I seriously only heard about all this stuff yesterday, when Adult Swim's tweet or whatever it was popped into my Facebook feed for some reason. Out-of-context, it looked like a hoax. Replacing a voice actor isn't anything new, but I'm not sure what it's going to be like when the instantly recognizable voices of the titular characters suddenly change. If I had to Venture a guess, I'd go with an episode where the new VAs do an imitation for part of the run time, then a plot contrivance occurs (and is duly lampshaded) that results in permanently different voices.
