i will definitely keep an eye out for eclipse. my ttrpg group has decided to switch to board games for a while after our campaign flamed out so we're gonna play oath for a few months and see where that gets us

root loving owns and i'd be lying if i said i hadn't initially been interested in oath because it's the same designer, but as i've learned the rules and watched let's plays and stuff it seems like a very interesting thing and i'm very excited to put it in front of my group. just not looking forward to, y'know, teaching it

Root is really good to give to a group of casuals, especially if you do coworker game nights. The first two turn hand holding really helps.

I whipped it out, we got set up an started playing, a bunch of other coworkers made some cones of dunshire cracks and then went off to play munchkin.

2 hours later we had finished and they were still going

root looks a lot harder than it is, literally just follow the instructions on your player board and you'll do fine

(oath also appears to have very smartly-designed components, but as i haven't played it yet i can't say how well they shake out in gameplay)

eclipse 1e was a blast (what if: twilight imperium or stellar conquest, but doesnt take an entire weekend to play?)

i havent picked up 2e yet (only available on the secondary market, very expensive). kicking myself for missing the kickstarter

this weekend me and da boyz are going to start playing kings dilemma, hope it lives up to the hype

bay area yosgamers are reminded that dundracon in santa clara is next month (feb 17-20) and the game kastle near the airport is holding one of its semi-regular flea markets (feb 11) which are great for picking up cheap games (my copy of oath - kickstarter special edition, coins and resin tokens, still in shrinkwrap - cost me $50 at the last one)

I really want to play Pax Pamir with people but that's really tough to get on the table. Also weirdly even very simple bidding games. I think the requirement to actually come up with a strategy yourself is just totally prohibitive for some people

A Remaster that I totally missed, and its available as a free update to the original game, which is currently in the Steam sale for less than two quid

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1500/Darwinia/

If you have any love of RTS-lite, this was a fantastic bit of fun way back when, and I'm planning on doing a replay now I've seen this news.

Well worth a play if you never did, the A E S T H E T I C was unsurpassed.

I am still enjoying judgement’s story but I’m waiting for some super goofy yakuza-ey twist because although this game tries for a more serious tone then randomly you’ll do a sweet kick flip to back tailslide on a gangster’s car in a cutscene

the silly stuff is there so you can take a break from the heavy poo poo, it gets even heavier in lost judgement. the studio really learns every game

I loving hated Akiyama in yakuza, so it's like they're making up for it in the judgement games
