i guess they havent learned how to do client-side form validation so they just said "gently caress it" and replaced the text-box with a 730-item drop-down menu

want to bet it was designed to be a monthly/yearly/never dropbox and somewhere along the line a much dumber policy got inserted

so i spilled tea on my laptop and fried it, and that sucks, but i have pulled out my old thinkpad from 2014 to use as a spare.

i had installed kubuntu on it because i was like oh, this computer is old and slow, i better install some lightweight os on it so it runs smoothly right??? well that was awful experience. the trackpad never worked properly, it wouldn't wake up from sleep, all the software was bad and weird, etc.

i decided gently caress it i'll just reinstall win10 and deal with it being kinda slow.

well i did that and ran the lenovo driver installer and guess what: not only does everything work perfectly, but it's even faster and smoother than it was with linux on it. perfectly usable. lmao.

it's called win 11 because if you still use win 10 you lose.

not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure that they don't do any testing of teams running on non-domain workstations as a standalone. For me teams hasn't been able to remember a logged in state or start without errors since at least 2020

also it might be that they just don't do any testing at all

they added Task Manager back to the task bar right-click menu:

not sure when exactly but it's too little too late imo. i've already lost the muscle memory i had with win10 for right-click taskbar -> task manager. really idk why they decided to make the start button and the taskbar have different context menus its just dumb af.

i never got to task manager that way. i've used the ctrl+shift+esc button combo for as long as i remember. i think that one was added in when they made ctrl+alt+del no longer just pull open the task manager.

one of my computer janitor friends was also griping about that feature, but, tbh, i didn't ever realize i could right click the task bar to get the task manager. never needed to.

ctrl-shift-esc was a big upgrade because you can open talk manager with thumb and forefinger

yeah i just use ddg because i can type "!so <search term>" into ddg instead of "stack overflow <search term>" into google

e: i do also have chrome shortcuts setup so sometimes i don't even use ddg, like instead of !w <search term> for wikipedia i type "wk <tab> <search term>" in chrome

basically google search kinda blows now and it's never my first choice. ddg or bing aren't amazing either tho
