idk if i ever posted this link here before, and as the forums search is poo poo™, i figured i'd just go ahead and let rip again.

this is the last release i put out (in collaboration with my buddy shawn) before i got hurt back in 2014, and it is one of the things in my discography that i am most proud of. we did a very limited vinyl run featuring sleeves that were hand-screened by shawn and i, and it's hilarious to me that someone is trying to sell a vg+ graded copy on the discogs marketplace for $50 (iirc we sold the brand-new records for like $10-$12 each back in 2014). i hope you jerks can dig it: https://brokenplanet.bandcamp.com/album/trust-us

Transcription is kinda tedious... or at least it was when I tried to transcribe "Ho Ho Ho it's Christmas Time" for my contribution to last year's Christmas album. I had to figure it out one note at a time... just trying various notes until I got the right one, then moving on to the next one. There's probably an easier way.

I thought I wouldn't be able to do FAWM this year, but it turns out, I was wrong. It's almost done... but then I'll need song titles. The results so far are here - https://write.fawm.org/@spacehoers

when I played in church

lmao

loved that guitar though. paul reed smith SE .. I sold it and bought an OG ipad. drat it was pretty nice to play. what a waste

god that part of the song and then the solo are so good. the tone on the solo is so so saturated and drat david is the king of bends. and then then reprise back into breathe ..

(I can’t deal with the clocks at the start of time so i skip them)

when I was on holiday last month i’d had an edible and a couple beers and I was outside with a beer in my hand, listening to this, watching some palm trees blowing in the wind, and everything felt like it was in slow motion and it was one of those ever so rare perfect moments in life. god bless

the start of the album is good.. and funnily enough the first track is long enough to do two nitrous balloons and it’s perfectly timed for you to breathe at the start of breathe, and this is perfect for the craziness of the first song to build as you’re getting higher and then relax into breathe which is about as chill as it gets

I don’t listen to the middle of the album as much, but the combo of and change between brain damage -> eclipse is so good and such a good way to end an album

it’s not my favourite pink floyd album but its got some incredible parts. and it was on the top 100 for like 17 years .:. 17 fuckin years ! incredible achievement

I've finally managed to re-arrange my 'studio' so my Mac mini, modular rig and turntables are all within reach without any of it feeling like its in no-mans land, where I end up never using them. also my turntable is finally at the right height, and my cat's got a new place to sit.

On the downside, does anyone have any experience connecting Numark mixers to Macs? I bought a scratch mixer, connected it via USB (for audio and midi) and it generally works brilliantly, but randomly every 15-20 minutes the audio goes from zero latency to 1-2 seconds, until I stop and start playing whatever I'm looping in Logic. The modular (via an Expert Sleepers USB audio interface) doesn't have this issue, ever. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Internet doesn't turn up much.

This is really important - the quicker I can start making music when I have the motivation to do so, the less likely that motivation is to vanish before can get started! I put my Volcas and a guitar in the room with my computer, and I use them so much more than the main synths and guitar in the other room. Plus, when I'm watching a long video or something, I can reach over, grab the guitar, and dick around with it.... and I'm starting to be able to play stuff I didn't think I'd *ever* be able to play!

yeah exactly, im messing about with stuff whenever there's a quiet moment at work or lunch break or whatever, its great

but its also about how stuff is placed when I'm actually using it, stuff on the 'wrong end' of the modular rig tends to get ignored even though it's less than a couple of feet away from my mini. It's also super weird because that rack is half empty so it's where all my newer modules are. It's a really strange hangup that I can't figure out, dunno if its because its far away from the computer so its a practical thing (even though actually it makes no practical difference) or if that part of the desk is further away from the windows and a bit dingier so it's a less nice place to be.

I started learning Supercollider tonight and managed to build this 'random drums with snare rolls everywhere' generator...
https://soundcloud.com/djfireextinguisher/splider

I'm pretty pleased with the kick and snare I built, the hats sound pretty ropey though. It's controlled randomness, occasionally spits out some funky beats, plus I'm sort of live jamming and tweaking stuff all the way through. Not very musical yet but I can tell it's going to be a ton of fun to mess with.

as far as these go it's one of my better efforts

somewhat concluded that the drum machine makes better beats when I don't just program the drums but use all sorts of drums to make more of an interesting something. and then got some satisfying sounds from the hydrasynth

then after midway it's ruined by poor musical choices by me but thats the way the cookie crumbles

one thing I experienced at the drum and bass gig was this one time where the music stopped and then the bass melody was rising in pitch and you wouldn’t have been able to tell without an absolutely huge sound system like this one, it started out so low that it felt more like an earthquake than music and it was no where near audible it just felt like the earth moving and it slowly rose in pitch until it was full on body strumming bass.

even when I’ve had a huge sub in my car and I’ve played around with very low notes like in the 20hz range I’ve never experienced this, when the notes got low enough to see the speaker to in and out in and out, it simply couldn’t output enough energy to make a sound or move anything. but this sound system could. it was unreal lol

ive been pondering the bass synth orb for a long while now. I really needed something to fill that space, and just dropped some coin on a moog minitaur. cant wait to get that bad boy in my hands.

even tho it has presets, it has no obvious way of telling what preset you're on etc, and I personally hate when knobs are wrong, so I suspect I'll leave it on the whole time just playing what it shows. it'll be glorious

Thanks! The Vic-20 is one that my parents found at a garage sale over 20 years ago and got for me, since I had one as a kid. I had to buy an adapter to hook it up to a modern TV, though. There's a massive old tube TV under the stairs at my house that was there when I got here and I wanted to use for this, but it's so big and heavy, I don't know how I'd get it out!!

The first hardware synth I ever played with in a music store was a Minitaur with a Microbrute set up as the MIDI controller. I already have a TD-3 and a Volca Bass, so I really don't need one, but I still think about getting one all the time.
