Alternatively if you’ve hired a pilot you could just get up, let them take over and then order them to fly wherever. They can sometimes find a path where the autopilot bugs out.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

Oh yeah generally an actual pilot will fly slightly better than the autopilot, but you then have to select the ship and give it an order which is more fiddly so I generally can't be arsed :v:

And also the game doesn't clear old orders very well so I often find my ships pissing about in the middle of nowhere because they are trying to complete some old "fly me here" order that I teleported out of halfway through.

Boron plot stuff, specifically the Highway:

So today Leda We woke up and chose violence. Also I love the frank and succinct speaking Gunship commander lady. The slightly haughty but gung-ho corvette commander is good too, I want to see him wearing a pith helmet.

Boron are great.

That… was a lot of Kha’ak. :stare: that Hydra wasn’t really suited for swatting pyramids… maybe the Thresher would’ve been better. Someone give the Boron some flak guns.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

The hydra I think is generally the better ship because you're at the mercy of the turret AI with the thresher, I can imagine them being quite decent in a squad just making GBS threads gunfire in all directions but as an individual, piloted ship the hydra is better because you can actually aim it.

I think it's finally time for a new start! Doing a custom one and fiddling around, turning off highways for fun, starting with some pirate stuff and going to just goof off lol

Reconnecting the Boron was a fun way to cruise the run to an end after the gauntlet that was smashing the Xenon lmao. It's chill just having lower difficulty and more guided plots to just play around with. Not everything needs to be Paranid Palaces and billion dollar buys, you know?

Yeah, I had the guidance line which is how I found my way out. I tried toggling guidance on and off with Ctrl-G to no avail. Mostly I just poked at email while I sat in travel mode for a really long stretch. Now thinking that I should have stayed in the Boron ship I got, since it’s faster!

Crystal mining (with the recommended mod) is insanely profitable vs making first aid kits. Made enough on the way back from Boron space from some purple and blue ones to buy an M mining ship and outfit it with the “low” preset. Now I just have to find some antimatter cores so they can finish building it. Will they eventually sort that out on their own, via NPC action, or does it fall to me?

It will sort itself out, but it would be far faster if you sold the missing items to the station yourself

OK! I can’t see anywhere on the map that sells them so I’ll have to keep exploring!

Do I have to ferry my crew to the ships I want them on? I have two with me in the hopes that they get exp for just flying around or whatever else I do, but it would be great if they could just teleport to my ship when it’s ready if that happens while I’m still out here hunting antimatter.

This is a random question - how well do X/X2 hold up? If they ever go on sale are they worth poking through for the hell of it or are they mostly obsoleted by X3 and 4?

For that matter if it's like 5 bucks is Rebirth worth glancing at or did it never get into a decent state

Rebirth is in a fine state now, it still has its own jank and isnt as good for empire building as X4 tho.

I doubt x2/x3 hold up at all despite fond memories tbh. Certainly the main plot missions have some stuff that was really cringe and lo-fi *at the time*. Today..? lol

OwlFancier posted:

Have to assume they just had pretty low sales?

You can stop doing it whenever you like. If you open the map it should give you the overview of the universe you've seen so far, and any property you own will be visible in your "owned property" tab on the map screen. After you find where you want to go you can right click the object or location and choose "activate guidance" which will give you waypoint markers and if you hit shift+A you will activate the autopilot to fly you there.

There are very few missions that are timed so for the most part you can drop any plotline midway through and go do something else.

Steam cheevos display the % of players who have the cheevo when you get it. Meeting the boron is currently at 5.8%. (Its about 55% for passing flight school, the highest % cheevo, so a lot of people either play totally offline/modded or just never actually started the game after buying it. Or bounced off flight school i guess)

The first attempt I did the mission was in the Thresher and I had no idea what I was doing, I charged the nest and promptly got swarmed. Second attempt was in a fully modded Hydra Regal, I stayed docked with the carrier until it was right up in the Kha'ak asteroid and let it take aggro while I hovered above the docking bay and sniped targets of opportunity. They really lay it on thick with the "stick close to the carrier" and "hey if you redock we'll repair you". The Hydra's style of combat is starting to warm on me after my initial disappointment of taking out for a joyride in Xenon space and failing miserably with it ( protip - don't solo tackle wings of Xenon fighters in Tharka's Cascade XV in a ship that want's to shoot and boost ).

My vanilla game continues apace, the venture stuff is kinda meh? I'd liken it to No Man's Sky where you send out fleets of Frigates to do missions, you can spend resources to shorten missions or do things to improve chances of success but you're limited to a single Venture dock sending out one ship at a time. Having visitors in my game was a bit of a novelty at first, although if you attack them in controlled space you'll get criminally flagged and occasionally they'll snipe your miners. There's a couple of venture missions where you'll have to engage ships of the opposing coalition, like escorting one player's M hauler against other folks upgunned M fighters that they've sent into Venture space that can be a challenge but it is a long escort mission because the hauler you're guarding is slow. By all accounts you can force the crew of the visitor ships to bail, so you can pick up some interesting ships for your collection, but by the same token Ventures level up pilots fairly quickly so you're more likely to run into higher skilled pilots less likely to bail. To be honest I'm not getting a whole lot from it, there's a clear progression in the mission line and my current blocker is a dearth of freely available 2 star management crew to burn for the next tier of missions and there's been a dearth of Management for 1 star managers in the trader's corners. I care less bout getting a new S ship at the end of it, I spend most of my games welded in a corvette, but maybe in later seasons I'll get a new corvette to play with.

Yeah, it would be nice! I believe there's actually a Yaki ship that you obtain in a mission and has that capability, but I can't remember if the signature masking was only available for a limited time...it's been a while (and the ship isn't that great)

So I just completed the hornets nest mission and returned the Hydra, but my ship is gone and I’m sitting on the carrier inside Sanctuary of Darkness unable to get anywhere. :downs:

Because I’m on a new start, I only had money to buy a scout that I ordered to dock at the carrier to pick me up but it got destroyed in one of the storms on the way.

Should I just start a new game with the Herald start? Thinking about waiting until most mods I used get updated anyway.

I'm assuming that you've checked your fleet assets and log history to determine if the ship has parked itself somewhere else or blown up? You've collected your pilot reward from the wing leader? If you blew your 750k reward for completing the mission on a scout and you're broke, I only see a restart in your future.

I believe achievements are "how many people, who ever booted up the game, did this thing", so anybody who played fir like, three hours at launch and never again is counted in the percentage for the boron stuff, not just people who have the DLC and could theoretically do it.

The ship is probably docked inside the carrier, if you go to one of the small landing pads and hit the control panel in front of it, you should be able to request it from internal storage.

Unless it had an order before you did the mission in which case it might have taken off and tried to complete it and then gotten blown up on the way.

I had a ship in a similar situation where it vanished at some point (and I didn't notice it immediately post-quest since I already just teleport everywhere) and when I checked the log later, the docked and order-less ship had inexplicably ended up destroyed. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I'm pretty sure the boron carrier itself just hosed off and got blown up somewhere

Yeah in the player menu should be a logbook with all events that happen, ship destructions show up in bright red so they're easy to spot usually.

It is possible also that it was docked on the carrier and just ate some stray rounds while parked on the deck but that's unlikely, I think, with that mission specifically.
