Probably spent too much time with Aimee Interrupter, who uh, if I remember right, has been on a few right wing shows.

Which sucks because Let's Face It was one of my first forays into the genre as a whole.

Fuuuck I thought they had a Q reference in one of their songs and I've been hoping that it was just my imagination. I know she has literal brain damage but I haven't heard any outright right-wing poo poo she's said and maybe that was also me trying not to be disappointed.

Aimee did some canvassing or something for Ron Paul and went on Alex Jones' show, both many years ago when she was much younger, but it was a big yikes. It's very unclear whether her politics have changed or what she thinks now. It was a major controversy and she's kept her political opinions buttoned up in recent years. I'd like to think she's changed, but it's difficult to say. People's politics can change, of course. But if she really had a change of heart, rather than just realizing that being a right-winger is a bad career move for a punk and ska singer, I'd have liked to see her say something. The fact that she hasn't, well, who can say, but it certainly makes me skeptical.

I don’t think fishbone has ever really stopped touring, but they also don’t put out new albums like ever. For a band that’s been around for almost 40 years, they only have 8 real albums.

their drummer also left after that album and he'd been really contributing to the songwriting at the time well. he's back in the band currently, though.

Saw the Skalars, and Scofflaws last night in Chicago. Couple of bands I haven’t seen in over 20 years. Skalars were really good and were mostly original members. No Isaac Green, but that didn’t matter. Would see them again.

Scofflaws was just Sammy Brooks and a bunch of fill-ins. Brooks has a ton of energy for a guy who looks 70. Scofflaws were tight, but I guess I got tired of Brooks’s antics because I left halfway through the set. Being really tired didn’t help either.

Also, Chuck Wren, for having run Jump Up Records for 30 years, is not really a good show runner.

Unfortunately (for us anyway), Philip "Fish" Fisher left the band again a couple of years ago. For my money he's the best drummer in ska-punk, and one of my favorite drummers, period.

Freefall Felix! I've been meaning to post about them in here for a moment! There's a guy, Andy B, who traveled around to record a whole bunch of other musicians for a project he called Andy B and The World. I liked this song in particular:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpD4oG9kCTo
I can't put my finger on why, but it really reminded me of Freefall Felix. Enough that I thought, "Hey, was anyone from that band involved in the song?" Short answer: No, I don't think so. But thanks to Felix, the stuntman that did a freefall from space, the band is really difficult to search for. After fiddling around with search terms, I actually got a few relevant results, and one of the first ten results or so was the OP of this thread. I can't replicate it now, but I definitely laughed that the band was obscure enough at this point that a post from this thread was a top result. But I feel that was definitely a thing in the 2003-2010 era - bands moving towards that heavier rock with horns sound and releasing a great album or EP, then just disappearing like these two bands.

In other ska news, Catbite and Brian Fallon covered the Slackers, but also made it goth?
