Why do latin american political parties have such inscrutable anodyne names. It's always some poo poo formed two years ago with a name like Vamonos. I mean it's not like European party names bear any resemblance to their policies, but you at least understand what they're pretending to be

https://theintercept.com/2023/05/26/mexico-us-government-social-spending-infrastructure/ Lol quote:“President Lopez Obrador’s federal budget for 2023 gives priority to social spending and signature infrastructure projects, rather than the investments needed to address bilateral issues with the US such as migration, security, and trade,” reads the document from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. “Lopez Obrador’s meager investment in migration, security, and trade-related organizations will probably undermine Mexico’s ability to follow through on commitments to stem the flow of irregular migrants and fentanyl to the US and boost economic competitiveness in North America.”

KomradeX posted:So this is just whitewashing government sponsored deathsquads, isn't it? haiti seems to be in a condition of almost total state dissollution. when the state fails to maintain monopoly of violence even in relatively well-off communities, those communities will organise militias and defend their neighborhoods. often, these militias will themselves turn into predatory gangs. eventually, an equilibrium is usually reached where the parties agree that the violence is hurting everyone and benefiting almost nobody, but a fair amount of blood has to be spilled to reach that point and haiti's attempts at setting up a minimally effective state have been severely hampered by outside forces since forever.

okay the article isn't wholly bad PERALTA: For all 69 years of her life, she had voted for the party born in the aftermath of the Mexican revolution. PERALTA: Everyone used to vote for them, she says, but they never helped. So this time, no way. She lives in Ecatepec, a massive suburb of Mexico City. She looks around. What she wants from her government is very simple. PERALTA: "We need running water. We want for the potholes to be filled and for our streets to be safe," she says. For these gubernatorial elections, Mexico's most established political parties - the PRI, the PAN and the PRD - parties that were once historical enemies banded together to try to defeat Morena, the party of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. But the super coalition failed. Instead, Delfina Gomez, a former teacher with relatively little political experience, won by a huge margin.
