The NV legislature is still going to have a special session to deal with some budget thing so there was a chance it's not dead....

https://twitter.com/jaclynfox5vegas/status/1666018279880822784

but this seems to confirm it is dead

extra lmao, that reporter is citing the NV legislature's speaker of the house, who's twitter banner is this:

Nothing is ever dead if a legislature is in session, the Gov could have his arm twisted or pockets filled such that he adds it to the agenda before the special ends in 20 days. But it don't look good!

I'm not quite clear how these special sessions in Vegas work, but apparently while the governor is the one who can call and set the agenda for these special sessions, the bill has to actually be brought forward by the majority leader to be considered and the word is that the current majority (the democrats) aren't going to do it.

Also apparently Nevada has weird small government laws that prevent their state government from meeting very frequently so they can't get another vote in regular session on this ballpark thing until 2025 at the earliest lol

This is something I've heard the local media sources point out as a differentiating factor between the A's stadium push and the environment the Raiders were operating in 4 or 5 years ago.. Everyone seems to agree that the critical factor in getting the Raiders stadium bill through was that Sheldon Adelson threw his weight behind it, and pretty much nobody in Nevada had more influence than Sheldon Adelson.. the A's have no such local champions, in fact the casino industry seems very lukewarm on the whole idea with the most you get out of them quotes like "we're ok with it as long as we don't have to pay anything towards it in new taxes"

It just seems like there was never any real local enthusiasm for the A's or this bill.

I don't know about NV legislature stuff either but that's how it works in practice in the bicameral system. The governor can't force a legislative chamber to consider an issue.

At least for the second bit I think they're talking about the fact that NV's state legislature only meets every other year (lol) so if the stadium deal isn't brute forced into the special session somehow then the next time it could be considered is... 2025.

This whole thing feels like it was done at the last minute by Fisher not realizing that it’s not a big priority for Nevada, and he also would get a worse deal than what Oakland was offering

^^there were some elements of this that always made me think that the primary purpose of pursuing this funding bill in Nevada was for leverage against the city of Oakland.. the fact that the proposed ballpark plan is completely unworkable, the fact that the bill that is being proposed doesn't mention the A's or the Tropicana site by name.. the fact that the proposed deal is arguably worse than what Oakland was offering before...

To me this screams that if the bill got passed they would have just went back to Oakland with that in their back pockets and asked them to up their offer. Nevada going through the motions of bringing this to committee to demonstrate to the MLB that they are serious about having an expansion baseball team to come to Vegas.

i think the assumption all along has been that they can just ask for an extension from the MLB for the deadline if needed

local sources in Oakland are saying there's a 0% chance Fisher sells the team prior to getting his public money windfall and a new stadium built (and the corresponding increase in team valuation).

Like I don't think the guy actually enjoys owning a MLB team, he never talks to the media and seems to have absolute contempt for the fans.. it's fun to talk about how the GAP stock has collapsed and how he may be close to broke and need to sell, but the fact that he can pretty much have the team limp along on his TV deal and revenue sharing paying all his expenses makes me think that he's going to stick it out.. I don't think he loses money on this team.

Penisaurus Sex

The pathway to him selling isn't that the A's are losing money, it's that the A's are the only way to backstop his failures elsewhere.

IIRC he's got some pretty usurious loans hanging around using the A's as collateral. He's not actually incredibly wealthy and considerations like that do come into play for him personally, probably.

A very cursory search showed that the revenue sharing deadline was negotiated as part of the CBA. I assume they would have to get permission from both the MLB and MLBPA for an extension and lmao at the MLBPA helping out any owner, let alone this penny pinching shitstain.

I'm curious, have there been any good writeups on what exactly is wrong with him this year? I asked way earlier in the year and at the time it was just speculation about the pitch clock having him shaken but we've gotta be past that by now. I saw the chart earlier about how basically everything other than his fastball spinrate being worst in the league, but of course that's more symptom than disease.

This seems like a good visual summation of what's going bad in his delivery right now.

It looks like his body is almost freezing at the point of release.

Also the main reason they're probably optioning him to rookie ball is so he can be at their huge training facility in Dunedin, Florida. If they optioned him to Triple A, he'd be in Buffalo.

It's kind of insane how much talent is coming up right now. Eury Perez, Jordan Walker, Taj Bradley, Logan Allen, Bobby Miller, Francisco Alvarez, Ben Joyce... you could list a dozen more. The Reds are bringing up pretty much a whole new infield and rotation. Sure, some of these guys will bust, but it's really cool.
