Just testing something out, has Analyze always been a cheeky way to nullify an enemy using a Reflect Arts shield/effect? I only bothered here in Reverie and was pleasantly surprised to see it both did analyse the boss but also reflected 0 damage back to me, ending their reflect.

okay started Reverie and I'm like in Act 2 or whatever. I was on the fence about this before, but now I'm solidly in the "for fucks sake, please someone that can wear the bigboy scenario/script editor pants get hired at Falcom and get this poo poo fixed up". I'm enjoying the route thing just fine and playing as different people doing different things at different times, but man I feel like the writer(s) is/are drat near creatively bankrupt at times when it comes moving the plot from point A to D in the scenario.

I'm enjoying the game and world as normal, but I can't express how done I'm with the whole schtick of time to fight super 'person' for 30-40 rounds to make them run away/or whatever with no meaningful conclusion. Worse yet now we're doing that for both sides of opposing parties literally back to back as if it's somehow meaningful or advances the story/benefits the story in any way.

While I agree with you in the broad strokes, I actually thought that whole bit in Chapter 2 was pretty cool.

From what I've absorbed:
-Van's your basic physical-leaning MC, good mix of 'fast', 'strong' and 'tough'.
-Agnes is a support caster (though as with all games just because you're the 'healer' doesn't mean you can't do serious damage with arts)
-Feri's a glass cannon physical fighter
-Aaron's the Wild Rage user and not a half-bad dodge tank
-Risette's flexible between arts and physical attacks
-Quatre's another caster
-Judith's... okay she confuses me is she more physical or magical?
-Bergard's a slow but strong tank.

My biggest takeaway from Chapter 2 thus far is that Cubelion can go gently caress itself. Bullshit move for a boss-type to pull at will that early in a game.

I kind of liked it honestly. I just had to make sure to keep one of the healer S-Crafts on deck and it was a neat thing to have to scramble and adapt to.

I really in general like that the bosses hit really hard and with more status effects and such. I'd probably like it more if Link poo poo wasn't broken which makes optimizing around it harder but y'know.

What was that gimmick? I was playing Cold Steel 2 style and delay-stacking it to death with Rixia and her Brave Order, so I think Cubellion attacked me like once, tops. I'm curious what I missed.

Well, it's not really spoiler but (Reverie Ch2) Cubelion has a Meteor attack that ignores reflect / damage reduction and reduces everyone's HP to exactly 8 HP and gives them Faint status, and can often then act immediately afterwards and therefore do obviously enough damage to wipe out the active characters, leaving you with only your reserve, who might not be equipped to deal a full-team ressurection, especially when Cubelion can instantly use the Meteor attack again. It's not impossible to deal with but when you weren't expecting that combination of bullshit effects it felt a little overly difficult given the calibre of the prior environment previous.

Van is your tank, he has an ability that can essentially draw agro, so stack him with HP/defense/evade, he does good damage too, use him to get bosses to face away from the rest of the party. Agnes is a great healer or arts caster. Risette has great support skills and can create a damage shield for everyone (invaluable)

4th person in your part can be whoever imo. Like early Trails games the characters get added to the party pretty slowly anyways so you don't really get many flexible options until late game.

I see that Pom Party is back. I do not understand Pom Party. In previous games there has been almost zero explanation and no tutorial. So even the first opponent utterly crushes me. I stopped even trying to play it in the later games. I sure hope Reverie does a better job of trying to teach me how to play it but I'm not holding my breath. Just another minigame that I'm gonna end up skipping, probably.

You play tetris bejeweled as persistently as possible till the computer bricks itself. It's kinda fun since it's mostly easy and just luck.

I love every single thing about Reverie so far, amexsctly as good as I was hoping. Gaius should have been a protagonist with a church focused story though.

Gonna be pissed if this one request for fish fillet in Zero expires before the game lets me go back to the path by the hospital for more. Also I thought I explored pretty throughly whenever the time of day changed, but those two kids from the prologue told me how Estelle helped them find a kitty’s mom, which I feel like might have been an actual hidden quest and not just flavor.

This game’s pretty cool though. Kinda wish I selected Hard though, and it’s hard to comment on the pacing versus Sky because I’m just taking my time with it and talking to NPCs when their dialogue changes for the funny little stories. Like the husband and wife that just kinda hate each other and don’t know how to communicate.

Chapter 1, so i don’t think I need spoilers, but yeah, got a lot of drops from the big floating fish on the way to the hospital so i didn’t think much of it but it turns out they were all roe, and the game just railroads me to the mountain pass when I try to go back.

I kinda figured since the game made a point of going “we should really, really make sure we hit up the requests” but tbh I’m not even mad, it’s just funny that this game has so much attention put into its little incidental dialogues but they flubbed a quest like that.

Edit: was wrong, there’s weird finned leeches the game thinks are fish and drop fillets on the mountain part past the cave, so I was able to run back to town (thank Christ for speed up) and finish it.

Weird. Maybe it's a PS5 thing. What platform are you on?

Now I'm getting a bug where trying to swap attack/support characters from the menu screen just gives me a popup saying "You cannot represent a different team," whatever the gently caress that means! I can get around it by swapping them during battle but it's a pain in the rear end. Fun.

And it's calling a clearly marked women's restroom "the men's restroom."

I'm on PS5. It's the Europe/deluxe edition but I'm not sure they're quite that mean to add that as a regional or paid bonus. Also the Reverie Tree gave me +100CP the first time I used it even though it said you're meant to buy that as an upgrade, but that might be a one-time courtesy thing.

When playing the introduction, every time I went through a door the game would open the PS5 save prompt and then spit out an error message, so overall 10/10 no quality issues.

To be honest early in the game my biggest issue was being a moron and trying to turn on automatically progressing dialogue and hitting L1 instead of R1, which for those who aren't sure, here's my warning: L1 is turbo-skip until you have to make a choice or the scene ends.

Falcom frustrates the hell out of me because it turns out most of their revenue from Ys and Trails is actually in the west and not in Asia, yet the west is treated like an afterthought. As incompetent as NISA is, Falcom certainly don't help because they don't let NISA even begin translating the scripts for games until it's out in Japan and it was the same deal back when XSEED were doing the localization; what's especially frustrating about this is that they're only like this with their western partners. They're more than happy to let Clouded Leopard Entertainment to work on Korean and Chinese translations of their games while they're in development.

I'm at a point where I like Falcom games (mostly, I am getting tired of a lot of things they do) but kind of hate both Falcom as a company and their localization partner NISA for their gross mismanagement.
