big beat was basically a bridge between original hip hop DJing [before rap records], mashups and modern “open format” DJing and it was rad. like all similar formats it would be too expensive to license all relevant samples and you can’t sell the performances so the best surviving examples are DJ mixes listen to 2 disc mix sets FSUK volumes 1-4 if possible also Brit hop & amyl house, live at the social vol. 1 and 2, on the floor at the boutique vol. 1-3 and I’ll list more if anyone actually read this sentence

I don’t really care if talented artists make music I don’t like, it only bugs me if they get publicly mad when their existing audience don’t like it like I’m sure dj shadow is real tired of people telling him to make more music that sounds like what he made when he was 19 but he keeps doing his own thing
