If he can throw 99 at the top of the zone with consistency like he did in that last AB then he'll at least find his footing as a reliever. But yeah it's weird he was a 65-70 command guy when the Cubs traded for him who was a lock to at least have BOR upside, then the Cubs overhauled him to add a ton of velo and now it feels like he's always one pitch away from totally unraveling.

Genuinely do not understand why the Cubs are even pretending Smyly should be in consideration for a rotation spot this year. He was good out of the pen last year and the Cubs have a ton of better options in Wicks, Assad, Horton, etc.
