My uncle in particular was fun to interact with - he's basically a traditional northern-state conservative, in that he's for low taxes and small government but on social issues he's completely fine, thinks gays are ok, didn't even misgender my trans wife or anything, and he's pretty OK with unions because the teacher's union got him a pretty sweet retirement plan that he recognizes isn't really A Thing for most people. Anyway I think Trump has completely broken his brain. He hates Trump and everything Trump stands for, yet Trump represents basically everything that was just under the surface of the conservatism he's supported for his whole life, and it's clearly tearing him apart at the seams. Like my mom got talking to him about socialism (cuz she's a good ol' rabble-rousing socialist), and he just couldn't stomach the term, but when she phrased it in different words and mentioned Trump didn't like it he was totally for it. are you going to get him to vote for bernie

speaking as a seattle resident and working class schrub, I can say that pay docking, timesheet fuckery, and general shitheadedness is very much so a thing, and our city politicians can't do poo poo. I used to think Seattle was to the left, but it's basically just Neoliberalism: The City where we have rainbow painted crosswalks and legalized weed for the nazis and Amazon executives to enjoy

Some the gently caress how Phoenix (the actual city, not the metro area with its suburbs) seems less hostile to the homeless than San Francisco and Seattle. It fucks with me, because Phoenix PD loving sucks.

The scooter problem is easy to fix: get rid of street parking (aside from cutout loading zones), expand the sidewalk to take up the newly-freed-up space. Problem solved.

Moridin920 posted:They're only less hostile because they just buy them bus tickets to the coast. Nah, we actually have a fairly sizeable homeless population and encampments and the like. I live there, the homeless population is around and keeps growing. Phoenix has even flat out backed off on kicking people out of parks and stopping them from using facilities and the like because they gotta poo poo and sleep somewhere. Basically, don't shoot up in the streets or acost people and the city seems to leave you alone. It's not ideal, but it is far, far, far better than supposed "progressive" cities with more affluent populations. And behind like, ya know, Salt Lake City and Victoria, BC's plan of "give them homes". Like, I get that it is popular to lump Phoenix in with its suburbs and Maricopa County as a whole, but it votes like most big cities and has a large, somewhat Left-leaning Mexican population that just gets more politically engaged every election cycle. The suburbs and county suck loving poo poo tho.
