Rev. Bleech_ posted:Publius Enigma (something so stupid I'm not even going to explain it in brief) I can explain it as much is necessary to hear the funny theories because my father wouldn’t shut up about it for a few months on two separate occasions: this was probably the first online ARG, it was attached to The Division Bell, it was enacted by EMI mostly through usenet, it was not thought up or really supported/understood by the band at all, and it never really went anywhere because of really everything in this paragraph. The theories are that some nerd at EMI was allowed to do this mostly due to Theory 1. disinterest of everyone else, and this nerd really liked cryptography Theory 2. ‘former’ three-letter agency officer got a job at EMI and put it in for probably nerd reasons as well but maybe not My father thought nerd at EMI was former three-letter but had no ulterior motive outside of marketing and nerdery.

Rev. Bleech_ posted:She knew. And that's the thing: it was a conspiracy that spread across the prog rock landscape. And other places; someone in the group once said that if she had ever met any of the people mentioned, he'd eat his hat. Soon afterwards, Lucky Charms added a hat shaped marshmallow. She crowed that she was vindicated and this was proof. It was like some mutant child of erotomania and group stalking. I was a member of the pf&co file sharing hub, and i vaguely remember poo poo about it. But that was well after 2001. Couple of really weird people on there.

MFs talking about Sandy and Joe(?) again? One of my "internet friends" from the early years of this century trolled the living poo poo out of them back then. I bet if you brought up his name to them they'd have a breakdown or something. I swear I remember some fan fiction written by Sandy where she boned Dave Gilmour. Or he boned her, I guess.

That is just the sort of lilly livered defeatist talk I came to expect out of you. We can't just tear the tree out, we must obliterate it with a big metal dick! That's the only way we get the Kaiser to pull out.

SubNat posted:As a kid I always found it wild that you needed 2 cables for audio, 'but only' 3 for video with component cables. (Yeah, it's just a left/right channel split, but the difference in the amount of video perplexed me a bit.) Can't you just cover up or remove the CEC pin? I think they even make CEC-less cables.

I know if you have old enough cables they usually lack CEC because my PS4 didn't turn on by it's own until I replaced the cable.

Also the amp was usually the only component that has any real weight to it. Things like the CD players were downright featherweight.

As beautiful as that stack is, there's something deeply hilarious about needing to grab a stepladder to flip the record you're listening to.
|
![]() |

Does that at least move the needle to the record automatically or do you also have to blindly reach up and get it on the right part?
|

Cable managing that whole stack would feel pretty satisfying, I bet.

Gonna try to guess these: -Turntable -Tuner -Minidisc? -DVD Player -Cassette Deck -VCR -DAT tape deck? -Carousel CD Player -Amp/receiver? -Multi-disc CD player

Serperoth posted:I believe the Famicom had a bunch of unlicensed dreck as well which probably contributed The Famicom, not so much. All the cart manufacturers based in Japan were only doing business with big publishers. The American NES? Well Nintendo of America had a stricter policy on carts than Nintendo of Japan, and everyone had to use Nintendo's carts instead of getting their own made. the 10NES chip helped enforce this by locking out any carts that didn't match the right design. Of course, some people reverse engineered it and that's how we got Game Genie and Bible Adventures.
