Just got my 55' ST50 in today [amazon warehouse deal, looks alright so far]. I have some M8 x 16MM hardware which came with my Whalen 3-in-1 console/mount. Can anyone confirm the correct length for mounting the rails to the back of this? Looks like I have 10-11mm protruding out of the rails.

Yeah I guess my concern is that the holes on the tv are a bit recessed. Must be someone with some experience on this popular tv.

Is there any really good deal out there right now? I'm working with a $500 to $700 budget (mainly looking at the Samsung PN51E450 51-Inch), but I'm willing to spend a little more if there's something that's a great value.

About two years ago I bought a 42" Hannspree LCD. Not a first-tier brand but the price was right and it's been a decent TV. Today for the first time it's making a buzzing sound whenever it's turned on. I've plugged it into two other outlets, a power strip, same result. Any thoughts as to what this might be and how to address it? I'll be contacting Hannspree of course but if there's any alternatives I'd like to know.

Just got my U50 in the mail today. I'm no expert, but we have a ceiling fan light about 4 feet straight in front of the TV, the door is directly in front of the TV about 30 feet, windows on the right, cabinet lights, it's a lot of goddamn light. Even with my contrast and brightness turned down quite a bit, it's far from unwatchable. The biggest thing is that glossy finish. If you focus your eyes on it like it's a mirror, you can see the whole room behind you pretty clearly when it's on. I'm happy with the set, but if you have a bright room and cash to burn, 250 isn't too much more. I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it is as far as glare though. I can say if you're just a regular TV watcher like me, you'll see where there could be improvements, but nothing that would necessitate returning it. Hell of a deal.

My 8 year old RPHDTV is tired so I'm doing my homework now with plans to buy a new TV in the next month or so. 1. Gaming : does LCD vs Plasma matter anymore? 2. Is video lag a concern with gaming anymore? 3. Is one 3D technology better than another? Not sure what my budget will be yet but I want to round out my knowledge so that if I run across a good deal I can pounce.

You likely have some bad capacitors on your power board (could be some other component going bad, but capacitors are the most common, especially on a cheap TV). It eventually will die completely and the capacitors will need replaced.

We got the 47" Vizio 3d Smart TV and it's pretty decent for what we want, however the Netflix Streaming app freezes often (maybe once every day or two), which usually requires 2 tv resets (first one unfreezes but doesn't play sound). Does this sound like a faulty tv or normal for a "cheap" smart tv? The 42" Samsung was the same price, just smaller and of course the wife wanted the extra 5". Would it be worth returning / upgrading?

I checked out the Panasonic ST50 and U50 at Best Buy today. The image quality on the ST50 in comparison to the U50 as well as some other TVs around it was rather poor -- might have just been the brightness/contrast/whatever. I chalked it up to the theoretical tactic of making TVs you don't want to sell at market price look crappier than TVs they can make more money on... they do that, right?

If it were a smaller audio/video chain, I could almost believe it (only because of the recession), but in Best Buy's case, I'd chalk it up to lack of expertise/apathy, and the poo poo-ton of floor lighting. Also, I don't know about your Best Buy, but ours allows free access to the remotes. People will inevitably end up screwing with video modes, if not calibration settings at some point. I'd definitely check out a few independent/small-chain A/V stores first.

I usually use a monitor to play 360, but I hooked it up to my new Vizio for kicks recently. Street Fighter IV, which has some poo poo that requires frame perfect timing, was pretty much trash. Devil May Cry 4, which is definitely a twitchy game, but not quite as tight, was playable, although took me some time to get used to the lag at all and I was still dropping the occasional combo. I haven't tried it, but I'd imagine an even less twitchy action game like Assassin's Creed would be fine. If you're buying from a brick and mortar store, ask if you can bring in a console and a game. You're spending hundreds of dollars and it's not an unreasonable request.

Yeah, it's on game mode. Like I said, it's only noticable when I'm playing games where timing is super important. The monitor I usually use has, like, 4 frames of lag and it's borderline. I wish I had a Harmonix game so I could do the lag calibration thing and put a number on it.

Hey guys, getting ready to replace my Samsung HL-T5676S TV's DLP chip. The TV was given to me by a friends dad who just didn't want to mess with it. I read in this thread that DLP TVs 2004-2007 have other more serious problems. I believe this tv was released in 2007. I'm curious if anyone is able to tell me if this TV is one of the more problematic DLPs? IE: does it have a list of other parts that are due to go bad soon. The TV has a good bit of mileage on it, going through one bulb/lamp already.

this is something id be interested in knowing as well. im looking for a new tv to replace my aging 72" 60hz dlp. I like the super clear soap opera effect of newer sets but is 240 hz really going to be that much more dramatic than 120, coming from a 60 hz screen. I was also thinking of maybe going to one of those massive 92 inch mitsubishi dlp rear projection sets, does anyone have any opinions on those? right now i have a 72 inch tohiba rp dlp that is about 5 years old. thanks.

Are there any really stand-out budget TVs around 40" in size? I have a budget around $500 (although I can to spend up to $600 if there's a TV substantially better at that price) and I'm looking for something that prioritizes picture quality. Low input lag / response time would also be a plus. I don't care about "smart TV" features since I have an Xbox for that stuff.

My knowledge of that price point / size isn't too great, but the Vizio E-Series at 42" is $530 at Walmart and has good color reproduction but less than great black levels. Go to a store and see if it bothers you. The Panasonic UT42 is a really good TV, but it's a good deal higher than your budget at about $750. Also note that smart TV apps and 3D are pretty much ubiquitous at this point. The only TVs without them are pretty much bottom barrel anyway.

Is there some sort of size limitation that's preventing them from being 1080p? I might just wait for something to pop up on SlickDeals or Costco. Edit: is the TC-50PU54 a good deal for $600 at Costco? Lediur fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Oct 15, 2012 |

Are there any gotchas or better alternatives to this Vizio 60" LED for sale on Amazon for $999? My current TV is a 42" Vizio XVT LCD that I've had for four years and has been great. I'm moving this weekend to a place with a much bigger living room, so 42" won't work. WiFi means nothing to me because I have a dedicated MacMini and Apple TV hooked up. Audio means nothing to me because I have a decent receiver and a set of speakers I like. I use the TV for Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Plex, DVDs, rare PS3 sessions (in otherwords no HD sports, no crazy home-theater aspirations).

I'm lazy and don't want to do too much research or shopping around, but my wife has given me permission to get a new up-to 55 inch TV. I just want to watch TV and movies, maybe play some PC games on it. I'd like to be able to do wireless video from my Galaxy S3 if possible. I don't care at all for 3d, it makes me a little sick. It's also not as thin as the one above (this will be mounted on a wall), but it has a 240 refresh rate instead of 120. http://www.costco.com/Samsung-55%22-Class-1080p-120Hz-LED-HDTV-UN55EH6050F.product.11757770.html I've had good luck with Samsung in the past but I haven't had a TV from them in years. I ran across this TV http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889112067 the other day and I was wondering if it's that cheap because it's really just a piece of poo poo. I have a 26" Vizio now that suits me just fine, but something bigger would be kind of nice. All I'd do is watch tv and sports, and not in HD at the moment either, plus maybe some gaming a little later on. I have a feeling it's one of those situations where it's cheap and will go kaput in 5-6 months, but I also don't really know much about TV's either. What do you guys think about this brand/model?
