What are your thoughts on this Samsung 55" LED 1080p 120Hz 3D HDTV? Basically we're about to return the stupid 47" Vizio 3d smart tv because it's a giant piece of junk. It freezes all the time and gets a "No signal, will power off" message while viewing Netflix. Our last TV was a Samsung and we loved it, we just thought we could downsize a little and ended up with a dud. Now we have more money to dump into this so I'm thinking about that one I linked.

Looking at buying a new TV: Samsung 60" Plasma Roommate is moving out and taking his 56" TV with him so I need to get something of my own. Thoughts? I don't really care about 3D or the speakers or apps or network integration or any of that other poo poo. I just want to be able to run an HDMI cable from my Denon AV switching receiver and have the TV display whatever I happen to be doing at the time. I currently have a HD-DVR from DirecTV, a PS3, a Wii and an Apple TV 2 that would all get use. I primarily watch sports on DirecTV and play movies through the Apple TV 2. Just don't leave the HUD on screen for 23 hours a day and if you do, run the built in tools to help with image retention. You have to really abuse a plasma in an almost intentional way to get burn in.

Honestly, there are tons of good TVs out there for like half that price. You shouldn't buy a TV like that if it's going to take you two years to pay it off. Imo it's better to pick up a regular TV and buy a box to smarten it up (WD TV Live, Apple TV, etc.).

We'd actually only be putting about 700 on a card and paying it off come tax return time. It's just a little extra on top of the cash we already have for one. We have a ps3 that we use for Netflix streaming, but we kind of got spoiled with the smart tv apps on the current one (other than the fact it craps out all the time, which is why we're returning it and probably never buying another vizio). But with what you said in mind (re: smart stuff), what about 55"+ with 3d? I always thought 3d was just a gimmick but after seeing it in our living room I kind of want it.

Hello thread! I am looking for a hdtv no wider than 22". My mom is moving and she wants help locating a tv for her kitchen. She'll be sitting ~5/6 feet away. She's interested in smart tv/internet access. I read the op and a couple posts down but I have a few questions. First, is a TV's native state the listed [1080/whatever]? Second, how can I tell if a tv will upconvert or downconvert? Third, I visited televisioninfo.com and they didn't have anything that meets her specifications, what are some other good resources? Fourth, from the OP, it sounds like with a screen this small there won't be a realistic difference between a 720 and 1080. Is that correct? Fifth, is there any reason to get a smart tv? Wouldn't a tv that could just connect to the internet be the same thing? Thanks y'all

My very old plasma started to have some really bad problems today. Its like ghosting or burn in where anything displayed in the last 5 seconds will stay on screen. If you look at the mouth you can see what I mean. Does anyone know what the problem is and if its worth fixing? It's also really dim Would repair costs be higher than buying this http://www.woot.com/offers/lg-32-720p-led-hdtv-1 for about 280 after tax and shipping? I was looking at the LG 55LS4600 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+55%26%2334%3B+Class+-+LED+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+HDTV/4846747.p?id=1218551139323&skuId=4846747 I really liked the TV, but noticed that it has Trumotion. I wanted to make sure that could be disabled and found this. http://answers.lg.com/answers/7676/product/MD00002741/lg-electronics-55ls4600-questions-answers/questions.htm We appreciate your interest in our LG televisions. Those 2012 model TVs, designed for 120Hz TruMotion, are configured to where the TruMotion feature is active by default, with no option to deactivate it. This may be changed in the future, but at this time, there is no option available to change this feature Is this becoming more of the norm with other brands?

Can someone explain the difference between the different Panasonic plasma models? Is there any reason to not just get one of the U50 models if I don't need 3D? I have a receiver that handles all of my HDMI input and sound needs, and I don't need the wifi and junk because I have an HTPC.

More expensive models probably have more inputs, better black levels, better glare coatings.

If you lean on the videophile side and want the optimum ability to make the picture exactly as you want, are sensitive to reflection, or don't have much light control in where you're placing this, you should splurge for the ST models (anything above ST is unnecessary unless you're extremely picky). If you're on a budget or if you care about a great, crisp picture but don't fiddle around with settings for hours to make sure the picture isn't too "warm" or whatever, you'll probably be fine with the U50.

Well, my living room Panasonic TH-42PZ80U that I bought for $999 back in 2008 is still cranking away but when it does I'll get an ST for sure. Love the Panasonic plasmas and look forward to a newer, cooler one someday. I bought a LG 26 LCD for my office last year and it's pretty good but I'm not as impressed as the reviews made it sound. I think it's probably a bit handicapped by the upstairs Dishbox it is running off of. It was time to upgrade my Master bedroom TV (from a dying Magnavox 19 LCD) so based on the reviews and the fact I don't really care about 1080 in a 32 inch tv, and wanted to stay under $400... I grabbed a Samsung UN32EH4000 32-Inch 720p 60Hz LED HDTV from Amzn for $319, should be here next week. The 1080 versions of this size get pretty lovely reviews from Cnet but this one is apparently the cheapo champ for 32 inch LED's.

I replaced my 12 year old 20" WEGA today with a 32" LG (32LM6200.) I'd just finished watching a DVD so that was the first thing I played on the new TV (over HDMI) and it had a horrid, greasy look that made the movie look more like videotape. I switched over to my Tivo that only has SD content and saw the same thing there. Movies were video-like and gross. I dug through the settings and found TruMotion and turned it off and immediately things looked normal to my eyes. Film looked like film. I hope I didn't screw anything up doing that. I popped my Bladerunner DVD in and was surprised how good it looked. I can imagine BluRay discs must be amazing. SD video from my Tivo of course looks terrible but I'll be upgrading to digital cable eventually. Netflix streaming even on the lowest quality level looked surprisingly good. Are there any suggestions for trying to optimize the image between sources, like between the DVD and the Tivo? There seems to be a lot of variation between channels, but maybe that's only with SD content.

I get my Panasonic U50 in tomorrow. The PS3 and 360 are awful with MKV video and soft subs, timing issues and everything. The only reliable solution is to re-encode it with a single audio track and single subtitle track. Is the U50/other similar Panasonics reliable when it comes to MKV's etc. with 10-bit video/multiple audio tracks/multiple softsubs? I'd be really happy if I could just use the TV instead of always needing to hook up my laptop or get a Roku/WDTV/etc

Timing issues with half the shows, and a bunch of the time for some reason the subtitles straight up won't work on the PS3 :/ Since MKV is just a container it only works if it's not a format that PMS has to transcode, in which case you not only lose the ability to navigate through the video file and if it doesn't cause an audio sync issue, the subtitles don't always work. We've been just hooking our laptops up via HDMI when it's anime time. It kinda sucks though not being able to watch everything with PMS properly

I used to have that issue. Its usually a codec conflict that is easily solvable by uninstalling all A/V software and codecs and then resetting and installing the K-lite codec pack. I normally wouldn't recommend it, but its the only one i have found that just "works" with no setup. I can share my PMS config file too, sometimes it has to do with one of the boxes that come checked by default. I dont have the A/V desync issues anymore and I am always able to select the subs I want to play, I can also skip around and ff as long as its not more than 10x and I dont skip ahead more than 30 min or the size of my buffer

You might have better luck finding one with Ethernet, buying a >$15 wireless N router, flashing it with DD-WRT and using it as a client instead of a router. I'm not so up to date on the current selection of TV's out there but I know there are more with Ethernet and no WiFi than WiFi. But I assume you want one with a TV tuner since you're buying a TV at that size (just because something like a 27" Korean monitor would probably look better and be cheaper but lack a TV tuner obviously)

What are the thoughts on this LG 55LS4500 and why does it not have any reviews??? It seems like a decent price for a big hdtv without features like smart or 3d, and with only 2 HDMI ports (fine for us), but I can't seem to find any real reviews of it.
