I've got a Samsung LE37D580 LCD TV which plays MP4 videos etc from a USB stick, but it won't carry on where it leaves off. Every time I turn the TV off - not at the mains - or even just stop the video with the stop button - it starts at the beginning. Anyone know if there's a resume feature I'm missing?

I have some Sony reward points that expire soonish, so much rather get some use out of them. There is enough for $300 32" BX or adding some cash to get the $400 32" EX. Don't know much about TVs, is the upgrade worth the extra money? It will be replacing a 5 year old 26" LG in the living room.

I just picked up the LG 50PA6500 from HHGregg. Anyone have this set? Everything out of the box looks good, but what are some of you using for better settings? Did any of you notice input lag while using the 360? I tried Halo 4 for a bit and I'm not sure if I'm crazy or if there is actually a delay.

I tried it with the same results, or so I think. It also might be me adjusting to the size difference. I'm willing to put up with slight difference in input for the picture quality. Are LG's known for lag?

If it's a plasma, make sure to check for a "PC mode" which eliminates most, if not all post-processing (to a minimum of 17ms/1 frame of input lag) in the owners manual. Samsung and Panasonic's offerings have them, and I would assume LG's do as well. Also, for some plasma TVs, this mode may be restricted to a specific HDMI port. I game on it once in awhile, it does have some input lag but I adjusted to it pretty quickly and don't even notice anymore. Make sure you enable game mode and double check that it doesn't turn on any energy saving stuff (aka Intelligent Sensor)

Thanks everyone. I tried your suggestions, but I just can't get a good quality picture or reduce this input lag to a tolerable level. I'm going to return it and get the Panasonic U50 like I should have in the first place.

$300 bedroom bargain tv hunter update: The Samsung UN32EH4000 32-Inch 720p 60Hz LED HDTV is as advertised and a great tv for the money. It looks great with the Dish Hopper HD "Joey" receiver it is hooked up to but of course, looks like rear end with SD - so don't buy it for SD.

Any words of wisdom on the Vizio E552VLE for $650? Reviews seem to be kinda mixed with people saying the black levels are sub-par. I'm upgrading from a 36" CRT, and this would be a living room TV that us used for around 10% regular TV watching, 40% Netflix and 50% Xbox use.

Just a heads up, the 50" U50 just dropped to $599 on Amazon and is probably a bit lower than that on Sam's Club. I was all set to get one but my other half isn't crazy about it (we checked one out at both Best Buy and Sam's Club). We messed with the one at Sam's Club a bit and got it looking more acceptable color-wise. He was concerned about its inability to produce the LCD 120Hz effect (aka soap opera look). Horrifyingly, I learned on the store floor that he likes this look whereas I can't stand it. So, back to searching I go... edit: Sorry, I guess more accurately, it lacks smoothing dejuddering - which is what really makes the wacky daytime television effect work - according to the cnet review edit2: As it turned out, that was the U54, not the U50. Couldn't find much info on it besides that it was supposedly a lower tier than the U50. We wound up going to BestBuy and they had the UT50 in stock. Liked it and pulled the trigger on it, only to have our sales guy give up the last one in stock to another floor rep assisting a bunch of loving townies who waddled in after we'd been standing there waiting for him to have it pulled from the back for 20 minutes. Oh well, guess they didn't want my money. To Amazon we go! jkyuusai fucked around with this message at 18:47 on Nov 11, 2012 |

I just dropped in to say that I HIGHLY recommend the wall mounts from Monoprice. I got http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082806&p_id=8586&seq=1&format=2 back in May. It was very easy to install, did it myself. I would recommend two people. Took about 45 minutes and 15 of that was drinking while staring at the holes and trying to figure out if my whole house was off center or just my level. Turns out my whole house is. It says it supports 125 pounds, I weigh 270 (down from 420, woo!) and I could do 2 pullups on it with zero issue (because doubling what it says it can hold is proper testing, right?) It swings easily, tv feels very secure on it, basically zero issues. For 1/3 to 1/2 the price of other mounts out there. Brother in law got the 'official' LG mount for their tv, they're currently waiting for their replacement tv after the mount itself gave way, not the wall studs. Edited: I couldn't find an official wall mount thread, though I know there used to be one. I was also very nervous about ordering a wall mount so cheap so I was hoping this could help someone. Can I get some suggestions on a 1080p plasma that's in the 40 inch range? Do they even really exist? I may go with the Panasonic TC-P42X5, but I'd rather have a 1080 set.

I'm running HDMI from my DVD player to my LG for video, and digital coax to my surround sound receiver for audio. There's a slight delay in the audio that's more noticeable with some DVDs more than others. If I kill the surround and only listen to the TV's audio coming in via HDMI it's fine. Is the only answer for synced audio to have a receiver that also has HDMI? If I have both the surround and the TV speakers on I get a groovy reverb due to the slight delay for the surround audio.

The DVD sends video to the TV over HDMI and to the receiver via digital coax. The TV doesn't have any connectors that will work with my receiver so it comes straight from the DVD player. I think replacing the receiver is going to be the only way to fix this. It's interesting to see that HDMI must be faster than the signal to the receiver even over such a short trip.

My receiver is old. It's ok since this move to HD has been part of an overall effort to bring my A/V into the 21st century. I replaced my Series 2 Tivo with an HD Premiere, and then my 10 year old 20" Sony with an LG 32" LCD. Next I have to ditch basic cable for digital so I can get HD, and then finally the old (2003) HTIB goes in favor of a small surround receiver. In the end the only painful part will be the cable, since I only pay $18 a month and digital will be probably $70. But I look forward to HD content.

This tv sort of just showed up at best buy recently http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-60LM7200-led-tv It's priced at 1700 at http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb/en/US/adirect/bestbuy?cmd=catProductDetail&productID=BB12383470 It seems to have everything you could want in an led tv, thin bezel, smart, 3d and whatever. Honestly, I care more about the picture and a thin bezel than the smart/3d aspects but you can't get those without it. I'm a little nervous though because LG doesn't actually make any other 60" panels so I don't know if this tv is of the same quality since there are no reviews yet... Other than that, there doesn't seem to be anything else capable of comparison except samsung and they seem a little overpriced for the quality.

Do any of these TV's have fairly good color range? My current TV shows everything below a very dark gray as a uniform black blotch, and it makes darkly lit scenes in movies and shows frustrating to watch. I'm listing these TVs specifically because they're Black Friday deals at Best Buy (where I have a credit card), and my wife and I want to get a fairly large screen: Samsung 55" LED 1080p, 240Hz HDTV - $799.99 Samsung 65" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV - $1,497.99 Sharp Aquos 60" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV - $999.99 Toshiba 50" 1080p 60Hz LED-LCD HDTV - $399.99 That Toshiba looks like a pretty sweet deal if it doesn't look like total poo poo color-wise. I found these listed in the Black Friday TV thread in the coupons and deals forum.

No, my TV's a legit piece of poo poo. $500 Dynex special. I busted out test patterns and sperged like crazy over the color, but it just flat out can't handle dark scenes. Unfortunately the best buy ad doesn't list model numbers. Probably deliberate on their part to keep people from researching the TVs.

I'm trying to decide between a Samsung 60" plasma at Best Buy (1000), or a VIZIO 60” LED (also 1000). The samsung seems to be a Sears only model like another poster found, so no reviews, and the VIZIO has fine reviews on amazon, 4 stars. Most of the bad ones are whiners bitching about smart TV features that are stupid. I've got a massive room to fill and am really curious about these guys because they usually go for 1500. Which would be a better idea? I'm leaning LED.
