I have a fixed seven foot viewing distance. Personally I have a hard time deciding between the Kuro and the Panasonic. The only thing that I have holding me against buying a 1080p Panasonic is the fact that they don't support 1080/24p at multiples of the original frame. Other than that, they're fantastic and the best price:performance displays in my opinion.

Well I took a look at the AVS forums and they said they had stopped making the 720p kuro so.... im going to wait it out, to see what new models they come out with and check the new panasonics. phew.

gently caress YOU PANASONIC! My tv i picked up in the second week of november has been broken since january 20th. They replaced the broken boards once and brought it back and the exact same problem occured when we tried to turn it on. Back it went and still have no working tv. They are promising friday now as the earliest it will be back, but having 2 repairs in roughly 3 months, being out almost a month, it being my only tv, and them never calling back when they say (just call everyday myself so I know what is going on); has removed all confidence I could possible have with this tv. To throw into the fact too, I now only have 9 more months of warranty on a part that only lasted 2 months to begin with. If my tv isn't working by friday or has another problem soon I will probably just get a lawyer since panasonic has nobody that can take complaints or do anything about it, so the court can figure this poo poo out.

So I filled out the amazon 18month no interest thing, and they said they would mail me saying if I qualify or not. If I'm not auto approved, then it pretty much means no right? I really want this tv http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HPT4254-42-Plasma-HDTV/dp/B000NEJYZA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1202074404&sr=1-3 price looks to be dropping a bit though. was 1068 on the 5th.

That doesn't necessarily mean the price is going to keep going down. I've been keeping an eye on the Samsung LCD LN-4042H on Amazon, and the price went up from 999.98 to 1068 a couple days ago.

So they arrive on the 24th? Sweet. Is it best to wait a couple of months or do you think the price will be pretty sticky? (i.e. what happened last year?)

Looking to pull the trigger on the purchase of a 52-inch 1080p LCD this weekend. I've been shopping around, and have narrowed my choices down to three: Toshiba Regza 52HL167 $1799 at my local TigerDirect store Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U $1899, also at TigerDirect Samsung LN-T5265F $2249 after 10% off sale at CircuitCity Anyone have any recommendations? I've looked at all three in person and the picture seems comparable to me. I do admit I've been a fan of Samsung products and have heard their HDTVs were highly rated, but is it worth the extra cost? Other than normal TV use, I will also be using it as an HTPC monitor, as well as using it as a straight-up PC monitor. I like to have a wireless keyboard/mouse and just surf the web from the couch. It is this reason which is why I'm staying away from Plasma. If anyone has any info to help steer me one way or the other, I'm all ears. EDIT: Decided to duck out of work a bit early to go shop around one last time. While in Circuit City, a customer told me that HHGregg does price match + 10% of difference, so I went there and told them about the $1799 Toshiba at TigerDirect. They did offer me the price match, BUT since I also expressed interest in the Samsung, they offered it to me for $1850, so that's what I chose. Getting ready to grab a friend's van and go pick it up here in about an hour. jazzmegood fucked around with this message at 22:31 on Feb 15, 2008 |

The price might drop and there will be sales as usual, but most places will price match within 30-60 days, so it's not a big deal. Even at MSRP i think the prices will be extremely competitive, and with the big sales Sears, CC, and BB usually have every couple of weeks, i think these sets are going to raise the bar on price/performance.

I just received my Toshiba 32HL67U in the mail yesterday from amazon and set it up and I'm having a really serious problem with it. I what is happening is called ghosting, and its doing it really really bad. Any movement on the screen has a trail behind it that lasts for at least 1 second and it makes watching TV impossible. Did I get a broken TV in the mail or is there any way to fix this? Right now I'm thinking I'm gonna have to mail it back and get a new one unfortunately.

Or i could hit the device button, hit TV, scroll through the list until i find the input button, hit that, hit device again, choose receiver, find the input button, hit that. Then when i wanted to change the volume i could hit device, choose receiver, turn down volume, but oh no, i want to change channels, time to hit device button, choose TV, change channel. So yeah, using the Harmony remotes any other way is retarded. Also the Harmony One looks amazing. I must be retarded. I set up the remote (659) with the software and the macros work fine, but if, say, I want to turn the volume down I have to hit device, tv, then turn it down. Then to navigate the dvd menus on the 360 I have to go back to the device menu and choose the 360 again. Otherwise the arrow keys won't work. What the gently caress?

So I just got a response from amazon and they said that they won't give me there cc due to no credit (im 20, live at home, and only have 1 cc) Is it easier to get these cards in store? I have the money to buy the tv, but I'd rather get the tv on a card, wait the 18 months while my money sits in a online bank account, and then pay it off. This way I can build some credit. I might goto bestbuy today and ask, or is it not worth my time?

Harminoff since you have the money, get a regular credit card that adds a year of warranty to your electronics purchase. You will have to pay it off quick but will be worth it for that extra year of warranty. You might be able to get one that gives you 5% back too on your first months purchase or something too.

I'm looking to get a 32inch LCD 720p set soon but I had a few questions. First of all, at this size does brand make a big difference? Is the Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp worth the extra 100-200 over the Westinghouse, Vizo, Olivera, etc? Keep in mind that I'll most likely be using this TV for the next 5-10 years for sure. I don't plan on getting a bigger 1080p until it becomes more mainstream. Next, I'll be using this set mostly for cable TV, Wii, SNES, N64, 360, and DVDs on a PS2. Is there anything I should be looking for (ex. 2-3 HDMI ports, 2 Component, contrast ratios, extra special features that would benefit me for my use)? I was looking at the Toshiba REGZA 32HL67U and it seems pretty nice as far as I know, but then again I know almost nothing about HDTVs. I just don't want to pick up a set only to find out later that it would of been better for me to grab the cheap Vizo or instead the better Samsung.

I'm looking at getting a new TV and I'd like to get a HDTV. I'm looking for a TV that has the best response time for games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. What TVs are good for these kinds of games? When reading a specs sheet, what is a good response time to shoot for? I'm looking at the Sony Vizio VX32LHDTV and it lists a response time of 8ms. Is this good? Or do I need to aim lower? Or heck, is response time even the right thing on a specs sheet to look for?

I'm thinking of buying an LCD HDTV or DLP HDTV, and I need some recommendations, I want to use the television for gaming and watching movies as well as using it as a monitor, is there any television that is around 32" that fits these needs (or larger television if needed). I just purchased a 37" 720p LCD HDTV LINK from BestBuy, and I plan on taking full advantage of the 30 day no questions asked return policy. I want to put this set through the ringer and make sure it's up to spec. After some research I decided to try a Insignia, as it's a reboxed LG branded for BestBuy, at a good price. I know there are several things to look for, (ghosting, lag, etc), but most of them I don't understand. I have at my disposal to test with : Wii w/ Component cables (ZTP and SMG only games I have) TV has VGA input, and I have a laptop Standard RCA cable DVD player I know how to test for dead pixels, as i've done it to LCDs for PCs for years, but what other things should I look for in these first 30 days, and how do I test for them?
