Frontside puts me on my rear end every time I actually slide.

Typically I just stop dead and fly off the board

BS board slides are the first rail trick I learned. Put your feet over the bolts and mount a low rail. Land to fakie and it's really a 180 with a bit of an assist.

However tricks where you are leading with your back and moving towards the landing spot blind are cooler. BS Noseblunt being #1, followed by BS Smith.

I just found out my buddy was featured in Thrasher in 96/97 as the Poser of the Month.

Are there online archives where I can find this evidence?

Not every issue is fully scanned but a lot of the 80s/90s ones are

If you know the exact issue you'll probably be able to get a copy from ebay. They are about $20.

God, looking at the late 80s early 90s is a trip. I recognise them so well, probably as I used to study them for an entire month until the next issue arrived.
Same for transworld. They used to have some incredibly high quality photos actually.

And not to forget legendary UK mag Rad (Read And Destroy. lol)
I still have an old issue of that one where I was praised for being a good host to the Deathbox crew when they visited. I think it was maybe a bit sarcastic considering the feral hovel I lived in at the time

I am not a good skater by any means but I just realized that, among all my peers with whom I grew up skating, I am the best skater.

That's when I went pro for me.

I finally landed my first kickflip yesterday! Then a few more, and again today, on camera, while rolling!

Grateful the second one didn't take as many hundreds (thousands?) of attempts as the first. But I'll keep practicing until I can kickflip just about anything I can ollie.

Started skating a couple years ago, skate 2-4 hours per week outside of winter. Seriously, setting a hard goal and achieving it, actually doing it, is the best feeling.

Now I want to start hitting grinds.

Slowly learning frontside board slides on a parking lot curb that is on a shallow bank. It's more of a frontside disaster at this point but it's getting there.

But in other news someone left a very nice skatelite manny box at the spot and it has the smoothest ledge on it.

I did a one footed backside nose slide on it and it felt so legit.

:siren: I did a kickflip

I’m old and hadn’t done one for a while. The last session I thought I would start firing up the tries just so I could hopefully land one next time. It’s funny how popping other tricks like ollies or shuvs don’t bug me but for some reason kick flips hurt my front shoulder from my flailing efforts.

I tried 3-4 that were not close at all. I was skating with a few friends, one was getting real close to landing his half cab flip, and he says “you gotta back me up on with the kickflip when I land this”. A few tries go by and he lands it and so I put my heart into the next attempt and it works! It went in the air, flipped without banging off the ground, landed bolts and everything. we celebrated. It was cool.

Repaired some cracks at a local spot with some bondo and the results are so goddamn smooth. People seemed stoked on the work too and I saw one dude do a crook across both seams I filled and that was dope as hell.

:hfive:

I'm old (turn 50 this year) and skated from when I was single digits to my mid 30s. This spring a buddy came out of nowhere and said he wanted to learn how to skate. So we joined up with another friend and started going to the skatepark every Tues and Thurs mornings, then adding lunch sessions on random days.

And it was the best goddamn thing we decided to do. My buddy went from barely being able to push to pumping transitions and doing fly-outs, and I eventually relearned how to ollie and built up to consistent 50-50s on benches and boardslides on low flat rails.

It's been so rewarding to watch everyone progress and while I know I'll never get back to the level I was at in my 20s, I'm super stoked to be out there again.
