Speaking of bearings, I can't stress enough how much a quality set of bearings makes a difference on a long board. It makes for some smooth and effortless cruising, best investment I ever made for my longboard.

What depresses me the most is that being so close the beach about every kid I see rides. Long boards short boards sector 9s to even a big ol' plank of wood that somebody decided to stick trucks and wheels on. Then there's the really fat guys that know how to cruise. drat I'm really sucking right now.

Found a set of trucks and wheels on CL earlier this week. Now my longboard is complete and all I need is some spare time to go cruise that loving land yacht.

I imagine you all heard but Koston signed with Nike

I sort of saw it coming like most people I'm sure. I can understand why he went with Nike and would totally do the same if I were in his position... ...but it still kind of sucks.

I don't see how anyone can hate on Koston for any reason for what he did. Nor do I see how it sucks in any way.

I like Nikes...![]() Though I don't own a pair...

I would imagine he's still cool with all of the other crailtap brands as well as people. Lakai doesn't seem like the sort of shoe sponsor a sneakerhead would really want to stay with anyways.

The video announcing it on theberrics.com (I think that's, Berra & Koston's joint site) was pretty drat funny. Found some trucks and wheels for my longboard on CL last week for $30. So that beast is all put together and rocking now. I can't wait to spend some time on it rolling around. Then on our way home from Seattle tonight we stopped to get gas in a shithole town with a Volcom, Billabong, and Quicksilver outlet. The Billabong store had a bunch of Element stuff (I assume it's the same corp. these days) and one Muska deck for $30 with "buy one, get one" on sale items. Sadly it was the only deck, but we found some shorts for the same price. Now I have to find cheap trucks and wheels for that too, though that shouldn't be as hard.

The reason he left is that Lakai couldn't afford him. So to keep Lakai afloat he left them and got the big offer from Nike. After what Alex Olson got Im sure its a lot of cash.

Olson went to Vans not Nike. But yeah, probably a lot of cash. He did release a statement saying that he was really interested in the creative aspect of the new relationship too. This doesn't to me as a big surprise as to how similar the Koston 1 through 3's looked really similar to Nike Dunks, Jordans and Blazers. WHATEVS SISTER is right though, it's not like he's left his other crailtap brands, Girl and Fourstar. If Koston switched board sponsors I think that would be a much bigger deal. Shoe switch? Everyone knows Koston loves his checkmarks.

Referring to Olsen because it was a huge payout to a skater to switch shoe companies. Lakai had no chance at matching either of those offers.

Can anybody recommend a good decent shoe can I can use to try flip tricks and what not. My flat Classic vans aren't really cut out for it...since I wear size 13. They make my feet seem wider. Plus ya know they're tearin' up already and I only skate around once every 2 weeks. boo grammar ShortyMR.CAT fucked around with this message at 19:18 on Jun 16, 2009 |

PJ S LX (PJ Ladd's shoe)from DC are amazing skate shoes, I've been wearing mine out skating for several weeks and have done only minor damage. I also really dig Duane Peter's lowtop Draven's and Lakai's MJ2 Select.

I'm really diggin' those MJ2s. Besides my Vans classic I have a few pairs of Vans AV Sk8-Lows. Maybe I should wear those more often if I could find them :/

I'm skating half cabs and some DVS Gavins right now (by now I mean 2 weeks ago before I sprained my ankle). The DVS' are holding up better than the half cabs (not surprised) and they were only 10$ more. Lakai make some pretty solid (light weight) shoes too.

I spent way too much time there in the late 80's/early 90's. I need another board. I just realized my fixed-gear bike obsession is just a resurrection of my old skateboarding days reincarnated and misplaced.

I feel pretty spoiled looking at the prices people are quoting in this thread. There is this guy who runs a website (that doesn't seem to be up anymore..) selling cheap skateboards and BMX bikes. His tiny warehouse was about 8-10 minutes away from my house if we skated, and he'd let all the kids from around here go in and buy boards instead of having to order online. He would sell pro decks for more than half the price at some shops. I got probably a dozen different decks (Girl, Alien Workshop, and various others) for $30 each. I haven't skated in about a year and a half, and he moved his warehouse about 20 minutes away driving.

Pro models are 80-99$ with grip. I was going through a phase where I was breaking a board once every few weeks. That was ridiculous I don't even weigh that much (140 Pounds), I had to change the way I was catching my trey flips... I was starting to put boards ahead of food.

I've skated on and off for most of my life, but never really got past ollies and shove-its. I still gently caress around with my short board every once in a while, but I'm a snowboarder at heart, and not having edges fucks with me. That said, has anyone tried one of these: http://www.freebord.com/main.html The idea of being able to slide out and do big pow(concrete) slashes is so appealing, but i almost refuse to believe they work. Plus it's a huge investment. And if these are indeed bullshit, anyone have suggestions on a longboard?

donJonSwan posted:Get a Loaded Dervish, that thing looks like bullshit. I had a Dervish for a while, the drop through trucks were pretty neat but it ended up being way too flexy for downhill. Now I have a Rayne timeline deck with 1/4" risers and seismic 180mm trucks (definitely the best investment for the money if you like carving). I'm a featherweight, so I ordered the medium springs (dark green) but they ended up being way way too heavy. I just picked up a set of light blues and they're perfect, the board carves smoothly and pops right back up when you lift off. I got 81mm wheels for downhill but even with the cutouts on the timeline they were rubbing, hence the risers. As of a few days ago when I got the risers, new springs, new hardware and black panther bearings, my board is ready for summer carving. If there are any longboard goons in Massachusetts, I know some great hills. Route 1 has an amazing 3-4 mile gentle downhill that's never busy, you can carve back and forth for a good half hour without seeing anyone.

Free download of the new Nike AM Video... http://www.nike.com/nikeskateboarding/debacle/ Daryl Angel had a pretty heavy hitting part, I liked the video. It's one of those videos I can watch before skating and not have to commit 40+ minutes to (for example, Lakai Fully Flared).

Welp count me in as another guy who did it for a while then just completely forgot about it until recently. Decided to dust my board off the other day and hey it's still fun even though I'm absolutely horrible at it! The setup is about 11 years old now so I was gonna get some new poo poo, which leads me to some questions. I'm 6'3", 250, and I wear size 14 wide shoes. I wore airwalks until my feet got too big, then started wearin vans, but they don't make wides so I go a size up and it works alright. I love me some vans, but is there anyone else who makes skate shoes above size 13? I pretty much only do street skating, what size wheels, and how hard for the bushings? TIA. Also not gear wise, but how do you guys improve you balance other than just skating? My balance is horrible. Since I've been away from it for so long, I haven't kept up at all with the scene so I don't know who half of the popular skaters are anymore or these new companies, but I still get excited watching skate videos. Best for me is still Rodney Mullen VS Daewon Song (round 2). OniPanda fucked around with this message at 17:30 on Jun 27, 2009 |

This sounds like me except: I've only just started skating, I'm an inch shorter, Weigh 185-90, and have absolute horrible balance. Also I love my vans. For the balance stuff I just try and stand on my board. Leaning right left forward backward. Trying to tic-tac around ect ect. Thanks for sharing your experience, guys! This thread has been a great help. I've been learning for a couple of months on hand-me-downs and having an absolute blast. I've decided that it's about time to buy/make my first board. Could someone give me any suggestions? Me: 170lbs, 5'9", size 10 shoe (VANS) Location: Skate park bowls, boxes & rails Use: Cruising along the bowls, hopping around on rails and boxes, maybe some flip tricks Budget: Very flexible. Just out of college, and enjoying having a big boy paycheck ![]() I almost feel like I'm limiting myself if I get anything other than a 7.5" street board, since I know flip tricks just aren't feasible on anything else, yet I pretty much only board at the park. Is there any board that will really fly around the bowls and yet still be good for flip tricks? Is the Ceviche worth anything? If I'm just building a 7.5" or 8", the thread seems to suggest getting a local deck, Indy trucks with Bones medium bushings, Bones red (or black??) bearings, and I have no idea what wheels would be good for my purposes. Thanks again for the thread and for any help you can give!

i wear 14's and there are a pretty decent selection out there. try zappos.com but just a few off the top of my head that i've worn in 14's were globe vice, etnies calicut, however you spell that, emerica hsu's and lakai manchester's, any one of those would get my recommendation. i had some es' a while ago in 14 that were awesome as well, and nike sb. you just gotta get them online, really.
