As regards door-knocking religious types, at my flat it depends who answers the door. One of my flatmates is Muslim and has actually had a drawn-out philosophical conversation for at least an hour with some Jehovah's Witnesses. If I answer the door, though, it's a serious face and, 'No, no, you need to go away and please don't come here again.' I'm in social housing so I'm hoping to scare them off. ohnoyoudidnt fucked around with this message at 23:13 on Apr 27, 2009 |

I don't even bother answering the door to people like that. I only answer the door to people I recognize/when I'm expecting something like the electrician. You can especially tell there's no good reason to answer the door to people who are dressed in suits and holding pamphlets. And if somehow it was someone that mattered, they could leave me a note, send me a letter, or call me. ![]()

Komet posted:Bet $5 on baby dying in past two days King Skinny Pimp posted:I'd be more likely to put $5 on the baby being in the hospital receiving immensely expensive amounts of intensive care. Probably won't be dead until tomorrow, maybe Wednesday. I wouldn't totally rule out the baby kicking off, but I don't think that would happen without some major blog drama and prayer chains, requests, orgies. I don't necessarily think Myah would sit there and blog and post on Facebook while Faith dies, but I could see her phoning one of her facebook group admins or blog buddies who would then turn it into an epic dramafest. The best that could be hoped for is Faith dying quietly in her sleep during the night. If it turns into troubled breathing, rush to hospital, hook up to machines, this poo poo could go on and on. Since Myah has already retained some hardcore pro-life lawyer (hell she did that before it was even born) you know she will absolutely require EVERYTHING be done for the miracle baby - which is ridiculous but I'm sure the hospitals fear of getting sued will ensure it will take every measure it would in the case of a normal baby. Which is totally insane and bullshit that the hospital will be forced to waste huge amounts of time and resources on a hopeless case, but there you go. I have absolutely NO doubt that Myah would love to turn this into a huge drama filled battle with the hospital, "trying to kill my lil miracle!" She'd have every crazy pro-life fundie in 100 miles down at the hospital protesting, Pro-life blogs writing non-stop about the brave mother trying to save her baby from atheist doctors. I bet the hospital staff groan audibly everytime she appears on their doorstep with the brainless wonder. They also have to be on their guard because they know she blogs (she mentioned that early in a blog post) and has headed a pro-life crusade for Zombaby so I'm sure they have to handle her with kid gloves. (They tried to talk some sense into her early on to no avail. I'm sure by the time it got to the point that she insisted on a meeting with the hospital's entire OB-GYN department bigwigs along with her lawyer they were put on alert that they were dealing with the epitome of anti-rational - a whack job fundie looking for a fight at the slightest hint her baby wasn't a miracle or whatever)

The most depressing part of this all is seeing the mother just slowly become unhinged. Sure, she's always been crazy, but skimming through the blog front-to-back, her mental fitness seems to be declining right along side little Faith's physical fitness. Also, it seems to me that she's leaning more on religion now than she ever did in the past. Little things like not knowing which day is which Easter weekend and the overuse of the word "demon" tell me that she's pretty new at this. Her family has always probably been pretty fundamentalist Christian, but I don't think she took it all seriously until this happened. Really makes you wonder about the reasons people go to religion for answers.

I think that there hasn't been any entries in the last 2 days because they might be trying to do damage control. The story was supposed to be that this poor, unfortunate woman came to Jesus and the Pro-Life movement after she became pregnant with a handicapped kid and was deserted by the father. Now we've found out that she was a Pro-Lifer before she had the kid, and that the runaway father may be Dave Lirette, another Pro-Lifer. How embarrassing for them. I'm sure a lot of people who were initially supporting her would withdraw that support if this is true. Instead of being an innocent victim, it's starting to look like everybody's favorite mother, Myah, is a Jezebel who slept with her religious mentor and callously used her offspring to hoodwink everybody into supporting her. Who's got demons now, huh? ![]()

K posted:That really says more about the attitude to education and being informed that apparently 'normal' people can't be expected to know about stuff like taking folic acid while pregnant. Surely the sensible, rational response to learning you're having a baby is to look up what you should *do* in case that information is somehow useful? I said she should not be expected to act any differently or know anything more than everyone else when they become pregnant just because she is a religious nutter. Your whole post was pointless because EVERYONE should do those things you waxed on about. Here look: rino86 posted:Folic acid? She is a 23 year old fundamentalist single mother. I guarantee this was not planned more than 5 minutes in advance, and it is a miracle if she gave up drinking and smoking when she found out about the pregnancy. Tin Can Hit Man posted:Normal people go to doctors and listen to those doctors when they find out they're having a baby. A lot of people might not know about folic acid since it does not concern them because they are not having a child. But once you're there, there is little excuse for ignorance considering how readily available all this information is. Twice in a row?... My point was that he harped about her being a fundie an made a whole post saying that is why she didn't take the proper prenatal care when that has no bearing on it. See above requote for further example.

The last I've been able to trace him is on 3/10/09, apparently he's coaching kid's hockey: http://www.lmha.goalline.ca/team_staff.php?exec_id=21579 but his profile is blank. The other coaches have phone numbers and email addresses listed so the parents of the players can contact them. Apparently something happened last summer that made him go underground and abandon his preaching. It could be the Moncton Market incident, in which he got into a shoving match with a Moncton Market store owner over his preaching: http://www.moncton.net/forum/thread/113187.aspx (Naturally all video of the event has been removed, and the news article went to archive, but there's a synopsis of what happened). However, it also could have something to do with a certain unwed mother who got knocked up in the summer of 2008 as well. I guess we'll never know. It's definitely a strange coincidence.

So are they eventually gonna use baby Faith as some sort of anti-adultery lesson, claiming that God afflicted her as punishment to the parents for their sin, or would that be too hypocritical since they've already held her up as this pro-life miracle?
