yeah, pet deposit requirements are standard here and the amount they're asking for is the maximum legal amount, but double the local norm. They just never asked nor made a thing of it at any point previously, even though they knew we had them. There's not really anything I can reasonably do to prevent it, so hopefully it's only a couple weeks that we have to go catless.

Can you get them registered as Emotional Support Animals? I don't know if that will skirt paying the pet fees, but usually that's how you can keep pets in a rental that normally doesn't allow any. e:   SCROTUM CAT

No, esas have no legal protections re housing in my province and I've got some other reasons I would prefer not to get into to basically need to not argue with my landlord on anything at all in the short term

tippy can't fool me by looking cute. I know from luna experience that it's all a ploy and soon enough chaos will be wrought and hands will be shredded I tried to set her down on my bed the other day and she flipped out and destroyed my hands. I thought she'd been terrified by a cord, but then she flipped out later on her own because there was an inhaler there and I guess she didn't like it
