In conversation about horrible dance music, someone mentioned this song. Julie Please by 'Octavian' I present it to you, fans of electro/dance music. Octavian is (and was then) principal tympanist, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony.

Since we're talking about horrible dance music, I heard a brief clip of a song a while back from that popular 808+shitloads of reverb genre and I've been trying to track it down since. I get the impression it's a super popular song, so hopefully this super lovely sketch could jog someone's memory. https://soundcloud.com/helpimintexas/does-anyone-recognize-this Any bells being rung with that one?

I love upbeat, danceable tunes that underneath it all are horribly depressing Oh man this is great. This has got to be a reaction to all that #rememberthe90s pop-culture faux-nostalgia that's been so popular on the internet lately. I like how they've included not only mundane pop culture stuff, but also tragic losses, things we're glad to be rid of, and things from the narrator's personal life ("the way you used to look at me" oh my god...). It reminds me of this Zack Parsons article: http://www.somethingawful.com/news/drive-ad-nauseam/ Especially relevant in a post that also refers to Anoraak, and to a song by Moullinex that contains the line "the world ended in the 80s" or something like that. I'd like to hear a song that's totally over-the-top Com Truise 80's worship, but which just bashes the 80's in its lyrics. Hammsturabi fucked around with this message at 08:21 on Feb 24, 2014 |

So is this basically a PYF thread that wound up in NMD? I can't figure out if there's any actual discussion. Here's something, does anyone else think the rise of Big Room House is going to lead to an Acid revival? It seems to be kind of pointing that way, a lot of bigger artists have been making some 303-heavy tracks for a while but Big Room's influence has seen Fatboy Slim back in the charts again for the first time in a long time.

dj bobby bieber posted:I don't think so. I think DJ Snake type of stuff is next up unfortunately. Are you sure? I mean, there was literally a song called ACID9000 (sampling ACID8000 of all things) on the front page of Beatport recently, the TB-3 is coming out which is going to make a hardware 303 almost as cost effective as some plugins, it sounds great with the whole 808 + white noise + reverb thing that seems to be the cookie cutter recipe these days, and a lot of the old guard DJs are loving the chance to play it again. I mean, there's undeniably more of it in popular music now than there has been in a while, especially if we look at things being explicitly thought of as Acid and not just prominently featuring a 303 throughout (like Molly and Sexy And I Know It). Also thanks for trying, maybe if we keep talking like this people will stop just posting their favourite new song without meaningful comment.

Not only is it easy to make, but High School/College kids across the United States are eating it up, along with Trap/Dubstep oriented stuff. The fact that Insomniac and other companies throwing those massive festivals can pretty much repeat their lineup year after year (for a few years now) is a big sign of this. I'm just glad that this whole EDM-blowup thing has brought out a lot of great music and opened new clubs across the nation that deal almost exclusively in House music. And, hell, I remember four years ago when I first started hearing house, Electro house was the "big thing," and I definitely ate it up for awhile, before moving on to other stuff. I say, let the new kids have their fun, with whatever they like. It's not for me, anymore, but it's definitely fun for them. Ahh, looking back at my posts in this thread, I can kind of track my transition from baby candy-kid in college to house head. It's kind of funny, I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agoAsryxVrw I've always been a fan of Andrew Bayer's more mellow side. From It's Articial up to this album, If It Were You, We'd Never Leave. I just started listening to him again on my nightly commutes and he just has a really evocative sound in this album. Anyone know someone with a similar feeling to this type of music?

Raavn posted::-O Speaking of genres with joke names... I'd very seriously doubt it. I think that Jack Beats got inspired by Herve going back to the super bass heavy jacking-house (see Be on Your Way and Polar Bear) sound (they called it future fidget, but lets be honest, its mostly just, Jacking with influences from garage and jungle) and I don't see this sound staying with Jack Beats longer than an EP. Honestly, I like Herve's newer jacking house sound more than most of his old electro/fidget tunes. Its alot more clean and polished or something. I'm having trouble describing it. edit: Wafflehound, I think that if Acid does indeed make a comeback its going to be more like Dog Blood and sound more like complextro or whatever than house. double edit: Apparently Quack is finally coming out in april: http://www.foolsgoldrecs.com/2014/02/26/duck-sauce-announce-new-album/#.Uw44zPRdXrE the unabonger fucked around with this message at 20:41 on Feb 26, 2014 |
