I've just bought an e63 and cannot believe how bad the phonebook is. It is honestly the same application that I had on my Nokia phone 12 years ago, with a tiny extra bit of front end nailed on. Is there any alternative that works well? i.e. Will let me search by company name Will fit an entire contact card on a single screen Will let me view an address without having to go into edit mode Doesn't truncate the address after a few lines

hoo ah Man Nokia just needs someone to tie together the awesome like the ovi stuff (unlimited pic and video uploads) into one good feels good man package.

Ovi store should be put in a gunny sack and thrown in the river. Also, whoever designed Nokia's text prediction system should be shot.

It often makes strange choices for words. For instance for short words, like four or five letters long, it will sometimes opt for the beginning of a long word or some other thing instead of going to the entire short word. For instance, if you want to type "on" or "no", the default word choice is "nn". There also doesn't seem to be any accounting for frequency of use so if there are several choices for a key combo, it will always opt for the order programmed into it as opposed to whichever word you use most often. And then there's the way it forgets custom words after a while no matter how often you use them.
|
|
|

Which phone/version of symbian are you using? Because my very old E51 predicts text in the exact opposite way. Most frequently used words are first, and if you want to change the word, you just type it three times in a row. And I still have custom words stored from 3 years ago.

I recently retired my n82 in favor of a cheap Android phone and am blown away by how far behind S60 feels now. PC Suite/Ovi and infrequent updates exacerbate the disparity. I hope Nokia is supporting more recent devices better now. I miss the camera on my n82, but that's about it.

And if you want to type "at", it defaults to "bt". Grrrr.

That's thoroughly broken. Certainly doesn't happen on my N82. I'd tell you where to look up prediction settings but trying to find a setting in S60...

HPL posted:N82. And if you want to type "at", it defaults to "bt". Grrrr. Mine had the exact same problem you describe. Not the at/bt problem, but countless others. Forgetting words, trying obscure words prior to common ones, not recognizing common words I frequently used. Frustrating.

Great, I just updated the firmware on my xpressmusic, and I lost the option to type in full screen keyboard and have to use the mini keyboard, is there a way to get that back? edit: oh I see, now it hinges on the way the phone is facing, so I have ot turn it. That's pretty cool actually Guilty fucked around with this message at 12:32 on Jul 25, 2010 |

The E72 camera isn't the greatest but it's not bad for a cell phone, especially compared to my LG VX8550. This is a picture from our tomato garden.

Goddamn, Is there any way to access your Ovi Files without having to install the stupid files connector app in every PC you use? That's probably the most stupid design decision I've seen nokia make after the NGage. I sent some pictures to my Ovi account from my phone, and decided to open them from my linux pc at work, and I can't access them without installing the app. Besides that, I'm loving my new E72 (and i'm using flickr instead)

There should be an "images" directory on your SD card or phone memory. No need to use OVI suite really.

Anyone use Opera Mobile for S60v5? It's great but every once in a while it decides to delete either my speed dial sites, everything else I've saved (browsing history, saved passwords, etc) or both seemingly at random. I thought it was because I had it installed on the tiny amount of phone memory but after installed it to a half-empty SD card it still does this poo poo sometimes.

There's barely any improvement compared to the difference between USB and mini-USB. If it were something the size of a 3.5mm plug, that would be pretty cool though.
